Nå er det endelig duket for DVD-utgivelse, og akkurat som den første sesongen av The Simpsons, leveres Futurama på 3 DVD-plater. Både innpakningen, menyene og ekstramaterialet minner mye om Simpsons-pakken. (I grunnen minner hele Futurama nokså mye om The Simpsons men det skulle vel ikke overraske stort.) Hver av episodene er forsynt med tildels ganske festlige gruppe-kommentarer med en god håndfull av de ansvarlige, blant dem Groening selv og hans medskyldige David X. Cohen, og dessuten gjerne noen av skuespillerne og designere. Det er oftest vel verdt innsatsen å se episodene to ganger - med og uten følgekommentar. Når det gjelder det øvrige bonusmaterialet er det dessverre ikke LIKE interessant. Vi får en kort 5- minutter lang dokumentar som serien på disc 3 (verdt å se), alle platene har et par utklipte scener, og på disc 1 kan man lese seg gjennom manus til en av episodene. Ellers er det ikke så fryktelig mye å ta tak i. Jo, et galleri av tidlige konsept-tegninger med et par gjemte videosnutter på disc 3 er også greit å bla igjennom. -

The Simpsons Tapped Out - Analysis and Proposed Events Overview Players like myself have faithfully enjoyed The Simpsons Tapped Out (TSTO) for several years. The developers have continued to expand the game and provide updates in response to player feedback. This has been evident in tools such as the IRS Building tap radius, the Introduction Unemployment Office Job Manager and the Cut & Paste feature, all of which are greatly appreciated by players and have extended the playability of TSTO for many of us who would have otherwise found the game too tedious to continue once their Springfields grew so large. Notably, as respects Events, positive reactive efforts were identifiable in the 2017 Winter Event and the modified use of craft currency. As evident from the forums, many dedicated and heavily-invested players have grown tired with some of TSTO's stale mechanics and gameplay, as well as the proliferation of uninspired content, much of which has little to no place in Springfield, if even the world of "The Simpsons." This Premise player attitude is often displayed in the later stages of major Events as players begin to sense monotony due to a lack in changes throughout an Event, resulting in a feeling that one is merely grinding through the game to stock up on largely unwanted Items. Content-driven major Events geared toward "The Simpsons" version of Springfield with changes of pace, more like mini-Events, and the Solution addition of new Effects, enabling a variety of looks while injecting a new degree of both familiarity and customization for players. The proposed Events and gameplay changes are steeped in canonical content rather than original content. -

Klein’s Beer: Futurama Comedy and Writers in the Classroom Sarah J. Greenwald Appalachian State University Introduction Futurama [1] is an animated science fiction comedy with math, science, or programming jokes in almost every television episode. In the same way that history can provide context to mathematics in the classroom, the rich mathematical history of the show’s writers and the stories of their writing motivations can engage students. A combination of comedy references from the show and quotes from the writers is especially effective in helping to alleviate math anxiety and motivate students to learn and connect to mathematics. In this article we will examine numerous Futurama activities for the classroom, including discussions related to the writers and the representation of mathematics in popular culture, as well as activities related to humorous Futurama math references, including computational number theory and geometry. The need to master the fundamental skills of mathematics leads in many instances to a perspective in which mathematics exists unconnected to anything else. Students can become so focused on the present that they perceive mathematics as “closed, dead, emotionless, all discovered... [Teachers] can rescue students from the island of mathematics and relocate them on the mainland of life that contains mathematics that is open, alive, full of emotion, and always interesting” [3]. In the same way that real-life applications and technology can help students connect to mathematics, humorous popular culture references and the related history of the writers who create them can also foster connections. -

En s’appuyant sur des théories de l’intertextualité et de la communication, ce mémoire cherche à définir la relation qui s’établit entre deux ou plusieurs oeuvres narratives et / ou interactives partageant une chanson, ainsi qu’à appréhender les effets de ces recontextualisations multiples sur l’expérience spectatorielle et vidéoludique. Le premier chapitre examine les principales fonctions narratives et ludiques de la musique à l’aide d’une synthèse des principaux travaux sur la musique de film, de télévision et de jeu vidéo. Le deuxième chapitre interroge la notion de référence dans le contexte des usages répétés d’une même chanson populaire. Le concept d’interférence musicale est proposé à partir de différentes déclinaisons du terme « interférence » issues des travaux de Michel Serres, Sébastien Babeux et Philip Tagg. Les assises théoriques sont appliquées à l’analyse des trajectoires médiatiques respectives de deux chansons aux chapitres trois et quatre. La figure du réseau est finalement déployée afin d’illustrer la complexité des relations entre les œuvres intégrant une même chanson à leur mise en scène. -

When Nietzsche famously declared his death toward the end of the 19th century, it seemed possible, even inevitable, that God and religion would die under the rationalist atheist onslaught. That, however, was not to be the case. Religion and “spirituality” have survived the atheist challenge, albeit profoundly changed. Although there are a number of contributing factors, the revival of the religious in the West has occurred partly as a result of the postmodernist collapse of the scientific meta-narratives that made atheism so powerful.
