Klí čová slova: kulturní stereotyp, animovaný seriál, Futurama, Ugly Americans 4 Summary Cultural stereotypes are a common part of interpersonal communication, they help people to understand the world. They also include the social value and they can be an instrument of power. My theses investigates their using in American animated series Futurama and Ugly Americans. New Jersey in Focus: The World War I Era 1910-1920 Exhibit at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters 125 Symmes Drive Manalapan, New Jersey October 2015 Organized by The Monmouth County Archives Division of the Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon Gary D. Saretzky, Curator Eugene Osovitz, Preparer Produced by the Monmouth County Archives 125 Symmes Drive Manalapan, NJ 07726 New Jersey in Focus: The World War I Era, 1910-1920 About one hundred years ago, during the 1910-1920 decade in America, the economy boomed and the Gross National Product more than doubled. Ten million Americans bought automobiles, most for the first time. Ford’s Model T, produced with then revolutionary assembly line methods, transformed family life for owners. Such personal “machines” led to paved roads and the first traffic light, reduced the need for blacksmiths and horses, increased the demand for auto mechanics and gas stations, and, when not caught up in traffic jams, sped up daily life. Some owners braved dirt roads to drive to the Jersey Shore, where thousands thronged to see the annual Baby Parade in Asbury Park. While roads at the start of the decade were barely adequate for travel in the emerging auto boom, New Jersey became a leader in the advocacy and construction of improved thoroughfares. Better road and rail transportation facilitated both industrial and agricultural production, bringing such new products as commercially grown blueberries from Whitesbog, New Jersey, to urban dwellers. In the air, history was made in 1912, when the first flight to deliver mail between two government post offices landed in South Amboy.

Futurama - sesong 1 [3 DVD] Futurama - sesong 1 [3 DVD] Futurama Season 1 Peter Avanzino, Susie Dietter, Mark Ervin, Ron Hughart, Jeff Lynch, Brian Sheesley 20th Century Fox 1999 SF Norge 4:3 Fullskjerm Dolby Digital 2.0 320 min. 2 5 The future's so bright, etc.

CONTEMPORARY ANIMATION: THE SIMPSONS TO SOUTH PARK-FILM 4165 (4 Credits) SPRING 2015 Tuesdays 6:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M. Social Work 134 Instructor: Steven Pecchia-Bekkum Office Phone: 801-935-9143 E-Mail: [email protected] Office Hours: M-W 3:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M. (FMAB 107C) Course Description: Since it first appeared as a series of short animations on the Tracy Ullman Show (1987), The Simpsons has served as a running commentary on the lives and attitudes of the American people. Its subject matter has touched upon the fabric of American society regarding politics, religion, ethnic identity, disability, sexuality and gender-based issues. Also, this innovative program has delved into the realm of the personal; issues of family, employment, addiction, and death are familiar material found in the program’s narrative. Additionally, The Simpsons has spawned a series of animated programs (South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, Rick and Morty etc.) that have also been instrumental in this reflective look on the world in which we live. The abstraction of animation provides a safe emotional distance from these difficult topics and affords these programs a venue to reflect the true nature of modern American society. Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to provide the intellectual basis for a deeper understanding of The Simpsons, South Park, Futurama, Family Guy, and Rick and Morty within the context of the culture that nurtured these animations. The student will, upon successful completion of this course: (1) recognize cultural references within these animations. (2) correlate narratives to the issues about society that are raised.

The thesis investigates how these heroes' behaviour echoes a patriotic, conservative construction of the modern American as created through speeches given by George W. Bush in the wake of the events of September 11, 2001 . The thesis examines the hero in six primary sources: the war films We Were Soldiers, Behind Enemy Lines and The Great Raid and the action films Collateral Damage, Man on Fire and The Punisher. By analyzing the ideological subtext, political content, visual strategies and generic implications of the films, as well as the binary constructions of a selection of Bush speeches, and by reviewing historical representations of American male heroes on film produced in the wake of political events, the thesis concludes that the six films mobilize the USA's conservative viewpoint towards war and military action, and in concert with the speeches, contribute to an ongoing militarization of visual culture.

As the Ice Caps Melt This article is directed to the land trust community and to oth- er individuals and organizations that seek to preserve and pro- tect land through conservation easements. "It begins with the assumption, based upon overwhelming scientific data and analy- sis, that global warming is here and is having disastrous effects. To support this assumption, this article provides the reader with citations to a mountain of research and scholarship that has been published on the subject of climate change in the past three years. Given the reality of global warming, this article examines how conservation easements should be drafted to help deal with the sweeping and devastating changes global warming will bring. This article is a sequel to a previous law review article ad- dressing many of the same core issues.' Thus, this article covers some previously trodden ground, but in new ways.

  • Futurama Comedy and Writers in the Classroom Sarah J
Klein’s Beer: Futurama Comedy and Writers in the Classroom Sarah J. Greenwald Appalachian State University Introduction Futurama [1] is an animated science fiction comedy with math, science, or programming jokes in almost every television episode. In the same way that history can provide context to mathematics in the classroom, the rich mathematical history of the show’s writers and the stories of their writing motivations can engage students. A combination of comedy references from the show and quotes from the writers is especially effective in helping to alleviate math anxiety and motivate students to learn and connect to mathematics. In this article we will examine numerous Futurama activities for the classroom, including discussions related to the writers and the representation of mathematics in popular culture, as well as activities related to humorous Futurama math references, including computational number theory and geometry. Figure 1: Klein’s Beer [1, 3ACV12 (The Route of All Evil)] Writers and Humor in the Classroom In the course of earning an undergraduate degree in the mathematical sciences, students study a broad range of mathematical techniques and disciplines. The need to master the fundamental skills of mathematics leads in many instances to a perspective in which mathematics exists unconnected to anything else. Students can become so focused on the present that they perceive mathematics as “closed, dead, emotionless, all discovered... [Teachers] can rescue students from the island of mathematics and relocate them on the mainland of life that contains mathematics that is open, alive, full of emotion, and always interesting” [3]. In the same way that real-life applications and technology can help students connect to mathematics, humorous popular culture references and the related history of the writers who create them can also foster connections.
