The Football League Div2* Despite the blues brining a strong line-up featuring the likes of Conor McAleny, 1892 & The Northwest Counties Football League Hallam Hope, John Lundstram and George Green, it was the current holders 1982 who started the better and could have been in front inside the opening 10 Awarded FA Charter Standard Status in minutes. November 2011 Chris Tyson advanced down the Everton right, before playing in Daniel O'Connor, who found Tom Peterson inside the Everton box. But Peterson’s An associated committee first time shot was comfortably saved by blues goalkeeper Stanek. Billy Smart consisting of elected members: soon tested Stanek again, with a half volley outside the Everton box. The blues created chances of their own. First Conor McAleny saw his shot go Frank Doran Snr wide of the far post. Before Connor Grant headed over from 12 yards out after Joe Benton MP George Green crossed. The second half stated slowly with neither side creating any clear cut chances. Dave Ruth, Geoff Frasier, However, with 11 minutes remaining, the young toffees had a golden chance Dave Miley Snr; Ben Roberts to win the game. Harry Charsley headed Joe Williams’s free-kick back across Bobby Capstick, Dave Miley jnr the face of the game for Courtney Duffus, who came sliding in at the far post, Ray Woodhouse, Joe Doran but his first time effort rolled the wrong side of the post. The bucks then had a golden chance themselves to win the game with just 8 Joe Doran minutes remaining. Neil McQueen's long ball was missed controlled by O'Connor, but fell perfectly into the path of Peterson, who looked destined to Bobby Capstick score, but for a superb tackle by Everton full-back Ben McLaughlin. Neither side could find the elusive winner, resulting in the game heading to Joe Doran penalties. Neil McQueen Tom Peterson scored Bootle’s first, before John Lundstram saw his penalty Richie Boswarva saved by bucks’ keeper Dean Porter. Then Billy Smart, Joe Williams, Chris Ste Miller Tyson, Harry Charlsley, Connor Christiansen and Curtis Langton all scored, Alan Hardaker leaving Jamie Hay the chance to win the tie for Bootle. However, Hay’s Nick Browne penalty hit the post and when Ibou Touray scored his penalty it sent the shoot- Darren Carr out into sudden death. Chris Low, Mathew Pennington, Dean Porter, Ben McLaughlin all scored their penalties leaving the shoot-out tied at 6-6. Carla Yue th Match Officials Daniel O’Connor then took the bucks 7 penalty and scored leaving Callum Dave Miley Jnr, Dyson the responsibility to score to keep the toffees in the competition. Connor O’Neill However, Dyson saw his penalty saved by Porter, sparking wild celebrations from the Bootle players and Dodge Kop, on a magical night for the club. Ray Woodhouse The bucks now face Tranmere Rovers in the final, on 28th April at Prenton Park. 26 3 *Original Club folded in 1893 LETS MAKE HISTORY…….AGAIN!!! The original Bootle FC were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road (next to the cricket ground). They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. Bootle were the first team to win the Liverpool Senior Cup competition and narrowly missed out on becoming a founder member of the football league, to Everton. In 1889–90 Bootle became founder members of the new Football Alliance, which soon became the second division (now the championship!). That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Bootle FC’s place in the football league was taken by Liverpool FC. Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 the club moved to nearby Bootle Stadium and were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the 1953–54 campaign. In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second THE LIVERPOOL SENIOR CUP FINAL Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination as Bucks Park was consigned to history. In MONDAY 28TH APRIL 2014 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the PRENTON PARK North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first 7.45PM KICK-OFF season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd ADMISSION £6/ £3 place again in 2012. 1ST TIME BOOTLE COULD WIN BACK TO BACK 2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with SENIOR CUPS SINCE 1889 three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time LETS DO THIS #FORFRANKIE in 124 years. 25 Hello to all supporters players committee of both Bootle FC and our visitors Stockport Sports and welcome all to the Delta taxis stadium for the final time this season. It feels like I have blinked and the season is over but looking back there has been many ups and downs for the club in the 2013/14 season. I would like to reflect on on what has been an MATCHDAY PRICES emotional season. I will start with the low’s, and the lowest has been losing Frankie. 1ST TEAM: £5 ADULTS Everyone associated with the club has been affected and we are still trying to recover from it. He was a courageous man and is one of the main reasons I am confident enough to be the first £2 CONCESSIONS team manager today. He was and still is a huge influence in my life. UNDER 16’S FREE Another low of this season was Neil Prince’s departure from the club. It may seem strange for me as manager to comment on this but at the start of the season was a genuine expectancy to win the league. When it didn’t work out and the committee made their decision, it was a real low point. However the club had to move on and I would like to thank Neil for his time and dedication to the role. The biggest high this season no doubt has to be the Senior Cup final win back in August. It was a special occasion and one that we still hope to repeat this Monday night. Another high for me personally was taking over as manager. It is something I’ve always wanted to work towards, I was just not expecting it to be so soon! To get the first win as FREE ENTRY FOR ALL manager was also satisfying and with thanks to Neil McQueen & Richie Boswarva who have stepped into the management team roles to assist me. RESERVE & YOUTH GAMES: So to today. This is the last chance for the lads to play their way into the Senior Cup Final squad and prove they are worth their place. Especially the younger lads and fringe LEAGUE GAMES: £1 ENTRY players. I personally would be giving my all to prove I should be part of the squad. Thanks for taking the time to read my SELECTED GAMES FREE ENTRY programme notes and I hope you enjoy the game. Thank you all for your support this season- the Joseph WWW.BOOTLEFC.CO.UK players and I are extremely grateful of it.
