About Cocktail Curations Sustainability ABOUT COCKTAIL CURATIONS Cocktail Curations produces beautifully crafted cocktail bars for private and corporate events. With a combined mastery in mixology, culinary arts, spirits, and events experiences, the founders of Cocktail Curations take pride in elevating bar services with thoughtfully curated beverages. We provide a wide range of knowledge and services, including technical education and training in spirits, mixology, and recipe creation; developing cocktail menus; designing thoughtfully garnished cocktails; and curating mind-blowing cocktails with or without alcohol. SUSTAINABILITY Cocktail Curations strives to be a sustainable zero- waste company. We use fruits and vegetables pith to peel, juicing fresh fruits to create our mixes, using the pith to make our bitters, and utilizing the peel to create our beautiful Botanical Waters. Our edible garnishes are used first to enhance the cocktails beyond taste by heightening the sense of sight and smell. The unused products from our events have a second life to create other amazing products like our tonics and botanical waters. Our set-up for events is focused on sustainability, reusing containers and avoiding plastic as much as possible. We believe that taking care of the earth should be ingrained in everything a company does, working toward keeping our home beautiful for future generations. COCKTAILCURATIONS.COM [email protected] @COCKTAILCURATIONS NICOLE HASSOUN In 2011, Nicole began crafting creative cocktails at a small bar called Gin Joint. She uniquely transformed her skills in engineering into pairing flavored tonics with an endless supply of gins to showcase different characteristics. In 2013, Nicole started Sinchona LLC, a bespoke tonic water company, where she designed and created delicious homemade tonic syrups branded as Chronic Tonic. In that same year, she taught classes all around the DC Metropolitan area on cocktail-making, tonic-making, and the history of gin. In the following year, Nicole was awarded Best Bartender in DC by the Washington Post Express. She then made the move from creating cocktails to distilling spirits and worked her way up to become Master Distiller of Gin and Vodka at Jos. A. Magnus & Co. Distillery in Washington DC. In 2018, she won Best Navy Strength Gin in the World by Gin Magazine, as well as multiple other awards for her line of gins. Currently, Nicole owns and operates two companies in the food & beverage industry: Cocktail Curations produces beautifully crafted cocktails and Botanical Waters for every type of event, and Sinchona LLC specializes in distillery and beverage industry advising. THY PARRA A professionally trained chef, Thy’s career is a 20+ year repertoire of coveted Washington DC hospitality jobs. After attending L’academie de Cuisine, Thy began her career working as a chef for renowned restaurateurs Jeff Buben of Bistro Bis and Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve. She expanded her hospitality expertise as Senior Account Executive for a high-end boutique catering company, as Director of Social Catering at the 5-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel, as well as luxury Event Planner at EVOKE Design and Creative. In 2012, Thy was named Top 30 Under 40 Rising Young Event Professionals by Special Events Magazine. Thy then led the Events and Marketing department for the award- winning Jos. A. Magnus & Co. Distillery. In 2018, Thy was recognized as Washington DC’s Top 12 Dynamic Women by National Publication Modern Luxury. Tarling from this book are to be equally divided between The United Kingdom Bartenders' Guild Sickness Benefit Fund and The Cafe Royal Sports Club Fund. Contents COCKTAILS - - - Section One OTHER DRINKS - - Section Two INDEX to names of cocktails whose vast number prevents inclusion of . recipes in this book - - - Section Three GLOSSARY - - - Section Four Coronation Edition 1937 Preface O compile this book of Cocktails has been no easy task since it has entailed minutely examining over four thousand recipes, and to keep the book within reasonable bounds it has been only possible to give a selection of the most suitable cocktails. The majority of recipes are the originals of Members of the United Kingdom Bartenders' Guild, of which I have the honour to be President, and I can assure my readers that if they will follow these recipes carefully they will be able to enjoy many drinks with which they were hitherto unacquainted. Careful observation has shown that at the majority of Cocktail parties there is little variation in the cocktails offered, and each party is apt to have a monotonous repetition of Martini, Bronx, Manhattan, and White Lady Cocktails, all, I grant, very good cocktails indeed, but just as apt to be dull as continuous dinners at which the same soup, fish, meat and sweet are served.

BAR BASICS EQUIPMENT The right tools make mixing drinks easier, but some tasks simply can’t be done without the right gizmo. Boston Shaker Two-piece set comprised of a 16-ounce mixing glass and a slightly larger metal container that acts as a cover for the mixing glass when shak- ing cocktails. The mixing glass can be used alone for stirring drinks that aren’t shaken. This is the shaker of choice for professional bartenders. Barspoon Long-handled shallow spoon with a twisted handle, used for a number of bartending techniques beyond stirring. The handle’s curves help rotate the spoon during stirring, and the spoon bowl guides poured liqueurs into position for layered drinks. Hawthorne Strainer Perforated metal strainer for the metal half of a Boston shaker, held in place by a wire coil. Julep Strainer Perforated spoon-shaped strainer used in conjunction with a mixing glass. Cocktail Shaker Two-part container with a tight- fi tting lid. While styles vary widely, the most com- mon shaker (also called a cobbler) has a top with a COPYRIGHTEDbuilt-in lidded spout that serves MATERIAL as a strainer. The metal Parisian-style shaker, preferred by many home bartenders, has a sleek Art Deco look, lacks the top spout, and must be used in conjunction with a Hawthorne strainer. cc01.indd01.indd 1 004/08/114/08/11 77:41:41 AAMM 2 MR.
