BAR BASICS EQUIPMENT The right tools make mixing drinks easier, but some tasks simply can’t be done without the right gizmo. Boston Shaker Two-piece set comprised of a 16-ounce mixing glass and a slightly larger metal container that acts as a cover for the mixing glass when shak- ing cocktails. The mixing glass can be used alone for stirring drinks that aren’t shaken. This is the shaker of choice for professional bartenders. Barspoon Long-handled shallow spoon with a twisted handle, used for a number of bartending techniques beyond stirring. The handle’s curves help rotate the spoon during stirring, and the spoon bowl guides poured liqueurs into position for layered drinks. Hawthorne Strainer Perforated metal strainer for the metal half of a Boston shaker, held in place by a wire coil. Julep Strainer Perforated spoon-shaped strainer used in conjunction with a mixing glass. Cocktail Shaker Two-part container with a tight- fi tting lid. While styles vary widely, the most com- mon shaker (also called a cobbler) has a top with a COPYRIGHTEDbuilt-in lidded spout that serves MATERIAL as a strainer. The metal Parisian-style shaker, preferred by many home bartenders, has a sleek Art Deco look, lacks the top spout, and must be used in conjunction with a Hawthorne strainer. cc01.indd01.indd 1 004/08/114/08/11 77:41:41 AAMM 2 MR. About this Book First of all, thank you for purchasing the How To Drink While Dieting handbook, I am positive that you will not be disappointed, and you will have hours of fun experimenting with and perfecting my (and now your) new cocktail recipes. Please use your new Mixologist powers for good to help friends and spread hap- piness and only slight intoxication. And please, oh please, oh please, when you are choosing to drink, please do not drive. Call a friend, call a taxi, call a relative, call an ex-lover, try the city bus, buy a skateboard, get some rollerskates, or even sleep inside a McDonald’s (hellooo breakfast), whatever you do, just please be responsible. Make Me A Promise... You know just like I do, that e-books of this nature are easily copied, shared, and passed around. But I worked very hard putting together all of this research, recipes, and bringing this book from an idea inside my tiny head into the world so that you could enjoy it. Plus, I make my living this way, please respect that. I think I am charging a very reasonable price, which you must agree with since you purchased it, so please, make me a promise that you will respect the work I did for you and not give this book away to your entire neighbourhood. If you know someone that’s interested, please direct them to the website so they can purchase the book and enjoy it as much as you will. All violations of the copyright below are subject to legal action, and legal action just gives more money to lawyers and takes it away from you and me, so let’s not go down that road.

  • Bartender's Prep List
BARTENDER'S PREP LIST HI - WE ARE EQUAL PARTS COCKTAIL COMPANY We are excited to share our passion for craft cocktails and hospitality with you! We’re going to use some fresh ingredients and whatever you have lying around in your liquor cabinet to make (and, of course, drink!) some delicious cocktails! FIRST THINGS FIRST A great cocktail can (and usually, should) be made with as few as three or four ingredients. The most common household items that will yield a wide array of choices are: citrus juice (from lemons or limes) and sugar (white, raw, maple syrup, agave nectar, honey, etc). With even just one from each of these categories, you’ll be sitting pretty. ...more on sugar in a bit. THE BOOZE For spirits, we’ll be drinking something fabulous whether we’re reaching for gin, rum, tequila, vodka, aquavit, whiskey…the list goes on. THE TOOLS All you’ll need to start mixing is a cocktail shaker (or mason jar with lid, or protein shake bottle), a mixing glass (or pint glass), a barspoon (or a sturdy straw, or a chopstick), a cocktail strainer (or any sort of small sieve or slotted spoon), a jigger (or a tablespoon and a 1/4 cup measure) and a small knife & cutting board. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO AHEAD OF TIME? Have a few lemons or limes, and an orange on hand. As for that sugar…make some simple syrup a day or two ahead of the event. It really is simple, too! Equal parts sugar and water. Take a cup of sugar and a cup of water (this will be enough for a handful of cocktails) and heat gently on the stove just enough to dissolve the sugar, and then jar it up and toss it in the fridge.

Handcrafted and bottled in Niigata-Japan Extraordinary Cocktails Hiro Sake Brewery – Murakami (Niigata prefecture) HIRO Sake is made by the oldest Kura (brewery) in the Niigata Prefecture of Japan. The oldest of the 14 original local Kura, has been in operation since 1635 AD. TAIYO SHUZO BREWERY’s history began when the 14 local Kura merged to form one company in 1945. This renown brewery is an eleven-time Gold Medal winner at the largest and most acknowledged Sake competition in Japan, the National New Sake Awards. Inspired by the ancient recipe of Hiroemon Takeda, the renowned Samurai and Sake connoisseur, HIRO is crafted by our own Toji (master brewer) and by adhering to traditional Japanese requirement of making Sake. HIRO Sake is the new premium Sake that bridges the heritage of the past with the way we drink today.
