Dear Parish Family, BigNews…. By Fr. Douglas Bignall= The following prayer was found in Fr. Mike’s Bible. It is especially appropriate for this last week of Lent and with Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord the celebration of Jesus’ Resurrection and with the beginning of Spring. Coming Home to Hope: General Dispensation Expiration Guidelines The general obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days is being reinstated in the AOD effective March 13, 2021. The following are Specific Cases Where the Dispensation Still Applies: You are ill or your health condition would be significantly compromised if you were to contract a communicable illness (i.e., you have underlying conditions or are in a highrisk category). Please use the dispensation and do not attend Mass. You exhibit flulike symptoms. Please use the dispensation and do not attend Mass. You have good reason to think you might be asymptomatic of a contagious illness (e.g., you were in recent contact with someone who tested positive for a contagious illness such as COVID or influenza). Please use the dispensation and do not attend Mass. You care for the sick, homebound, or infirmed. You are pregnant. Those 65 years of age or older (per the CDC’s recommendation of highrisk individuals). You cannot attend Mass through no fault of your own (e.g., no Mass is offered, you are infirm, or, while wanting to go, you are prevented for some reason you cannot control (e.g., your ride did not show up, the church was at capacity). If you have significant fear or anxiety of becoming ill by being at Mass. Those within these above categories you must still observe the Lord’s Day and are encouraged to spend time in prayer on Sunday, meditating on the Lord’s passion, death and resurrection; an excellent way to do this is through participating in a broadcast of the Sunday Mass. Christian Stewardship: A Way of Life

Putting the Eucharist into Action: A Disciple’s Response Stewardship and the Season of Lent: Changing Ourselves Happy Palm Sunday! This weekend we take part in the proclamation of the passion and death of Jesus. As Catholic Christian stewards/missionary disciples entering into Holy Week, we see that Jesus embraced the Cross out of love for us out of love for each and every one of us. No one is left out He died for us all. How can we ever repay Him? By loving Him and loving each other. How do we love those difcult people in our lives? By being like Jesus forgiving them, forgiving ourselves, loving them, loving ourselves. Lent is almost over but that does not mean that our job at becoming “a better version of ourselves” is. We can still continue to: Turn to forgiveness, trust in the Lord, cultivate humility, focus on gratitude, learn to smile, adopt a generous attitude, control our tongue, nd more humor, be more positive, be more patient, think kind thoughts, become an optimist, and be persistent in our prayer. Whatever it was that we gave up for Lent or whatever behavior we adopted for Lent made us “a better version of ourselves.” Let us keep moving forward and building on that so that we might be like Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Happy Holy Week, Deb GoffLiegghio, Volunteer Stewardship and Christian Service Ministries ALTAR SOCIETY COMES OUT OF HIBERNATION!!!

REFLECTIONS ON FATHER MICHAEL COONEY During the 30 years that Father Cooney was our Pastor, many of us may have silently asked, “How does he do it?”, realizing all that Father Mike had on his mind dayinanddayout. Whether you have been a parishioner for many years or are new like me, we have all had the opportunity to see Father Mike in his ministry. Looking back at a few excerpts of Father Cooney’s letters in the church bulletins, perhaps we can get a glimpse of how Father Mike dealt with the daily pressures of being a Pastor. August 5th, 1990 M Father Cooney’s first letter in “The Ledger” of SAINT PETER IN CHAINS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Father Cooney wrote, {in part} “I ask for your prayers, your guidance, and your support as together we begin the future. Please be assured of mine for you and yours, on both sides of Eternity.” February 20, 2000 M Ten years later M “This past week, Charles Schultz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, died. Many people have commented that the timing of his death was poignant. He finished his job, and he went home quietly as he said goodbye in his comic strip. There are three things to be learned from Mr. Schultz’s life and his cast of characters. Each one of us, even if our lives are very public, are private individuals. Most of our lives are lived out in a day to day basis, far away from the harsh lights of public scrutiny and evaluation. It is in our private lives that we dream, hope and love. Most of these things people will never know until after we have returned home to the Father. Each one of us is like a beautiful jewel with many facets. Finally, we only go home when our job is done. When we finish, we put down the brush we used to create, paint and make our lives come alive. It is only then that our final goodbye is heard and understood just as the final Peanuts comic strip was read and understood in a different way. The lessons are what lives on even when the comic strip goes into re- runs.” November 29, 2020 M Father Cooney’s final letter. “Years ago, when I was a child, I remember a song sung by Bing Crosby about falling asleep, counting your blessings. For several years, I have had a tough time falling asleep. I cannot stop my mind from running about a lot of things. When I thought about this song, I began to think about some of the blessings I have. Perhaps you should think about them also.” ******************************* Dear readers, I feel a bit guilty, if not cruel, to take mere excerpts from the beautiful letters which Father Cooney shared with us over the years. I hope you understand the intent of this article which attempts to demonstrate how such a complex mind which Father Mike had, could use simple things to quiet his busy mind. Even if just for a few years, we were blessed to have shared the life and ministry of Father Michael N. Cooney. Have a Blessed Week [email protected]

Unity is one of the values as an Order that we try to achieve as a Catholic organization. Strong unity is a natural attribute of our Catholic faith. Our Order emphasizes this attribute by marking and memorializing important persons, places and events in our Catholic history in North America. Remembering is an important part of the whole Catholic/Christian scheme of things.
