“This is Your Life” – Golda Meir Activity – Overview Introduction Golda Meir lived a wonderful and varied life. Her life started in nineteenth-century Russia from where, having survived pogroms, she immigrated with her family to the United States. She completed her schooling, became a teacher, and got married in the United States. In 1921 she immigrated to Israel with her husband and joined a kibbutz. She became involved in local and national politics and later became Israel’s first and, to date, only female prime minister. Short Summary of Activity This activity combines research, art, and multimedia. Using the Golda Meir Resource Pack on the National Library website, the group researches one particular part of Golda’s life and its historical context and creates two artworks based on their findings. The artworks are photographed along with the visual resources the students researched and collated into a video. The group then writes a commentary describing the research, which they record and add to the video. The group writes a second commentary on the part of Golda’s life that is represented in the images. All the videos will be collated into a short, creative, and informative video: “The Life of Golda Meir.” Necessary Equipment Arts and crafts materials Computers/books for research Writing materials Smartphones with movie-making apps downloaded: o For ioS we recommend Splice o For Android we recommend VideoShow – Video editor Stage 1 – Researching Golda's Life Students are split into groups.
