What did it take for hits like Mary Kom and Kalki Koechlin’s new film to have their world premiere at the most illustrious film festival, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)? The man with the foresight for premiering Oscar winning films like Dallas Buyer’s Club, Argo and Silver Linings Playbook, Artistic Director of TIFF, Cameron Bailey, will be on location in to unravel his trade secrets on what it takes to make the cut. The Consulate General of Canada, Mumbai and Avid Learning are proud to host ‘Making the Cut Before the Red Carpet’. Cameron Bailey will be in conversation with Film Critic, Author and Journalist, , as they deconstruct all the elements that come together to make TIFF a mega film festival that shapes the future of cinema world-wide.

Consulate General of Canada, Mumbai

The Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai represents Canadian interests in Western India (Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat). Canada and India have longstanding bilateral ties, built upon shared values of democracy and pluralism, and strong people-to-people links. The Consulate’s support of this visit is part of its ongoing promotion of the Canada-India Audiovisual Coproduction Treaty, which came into force on July 1, 2014. The Treaty will allow Canadian and Indian producers and filmmakers to combine their creative, technical and financial resources to create joint works.

Cameron Bailey

Cameron Bailey is the Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival. He is responsible for the overall vision and execution of Festival programming, as well as maintaining relationships with the Canadian and international film industries. Toronto Life has named him one of Toronto's 50 Most Influential People three years in a row. Before taking up his current position at TIFF, he was a Festival programmer for eleven years, heading its Perspective Canada programme and founding its Planet Africa section.

Bailey has curated film series for Cinematheque Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, and Australia's Sydney International Film Festival. He has also served on awards juries in Canada and internationally, including in China, the U.S., Turkey, Greece, South Korea, Burkina Faso and Tanzania, and has been a guest speaker at several Canadian universities, the Smithsonian Institution, Harvard University and the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Bailey currently sits on the Advisory Council for Western University's School for Arts and Humanities and for Haiti's Cine Institute film school.

Anupama Chopra Anupama Chopra is a film critic and book author. She has written about the film industry since 1993. Her work has been published extensively in India Today, India's largest English language magazine. She has also written about Bollywood for various international publications such as The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Variety and Sight & Sound. Anupama presented and scripted a weekly film review show called Picture This on NDTV 24/7, a leading news channel. She is the film critic for , a contributing editor to Vogue (India) and a columnist for .

Anupama currently scripts and anchors her film-based show ‘The Front Row’ on Star World.Last year, Penguin India published an anthology of Anupama's articles and reviews, titled First Day First Show: Writings from the Bollywood Trenches. Anupama has also written a biography of Shah Rukh Khan titled King of Bollywood -Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema. The book was the first Bollywood book to be published by a mainstream American publisher Warner Books.
