(Rétrospective Béla Tarr, Centre Pompidou 2011) ©András Szebeni LISANDRO ALONSO Director Argentina ©DR Lisandro Alonso burst onto the international stage in 2001 with his first, radical film, La Libertad, and quickly became one of the leading figures of the “Nuevo Cine Argentino”. Over five movies, he has built a singular, outlandish body of work, bearing his talent for poetry, metaphysical questioning, and dramaturgy. In 2014, he presented his latest film, Jauja, in the Festival de Cannes sidebar Un Certain Regard. This puts him in the exclusive club of seven directors who have won Cannes’ top honor twice. In 1993, he brought Isabel Allende’s novel The House of Spirits for the big screen, the first of a series of literary adaptations including Smilla’s Sense of Snow in 1996 based on Peter Hoeg’s book, then Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables in 1997. SYNOPSIS There’s a theory that we should be born with a small amount of alcohol in our blood, and that modest inebriation opens our minds to the world around us, diminishing our problems and increasing our creativity. Heartened by that theory, Martin and three of his friends, all weary high school teachers, embark on an experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. If Churchill won WW2 in a heavy daze of alcohol, who knows what a few drops might do for them and their students? Initial results are positive, and the teachers’ little project turns into a genuine academic study. Both their classes and their results continue to improve, and the group feels alive again! As the units are knocked back, some of the participants see further improvement and others go off the rails. It becomes increasingly clear that while alcohol may have fueled great results in world history, some bold acts carry consequences. DIRECTOR’S INTENT THOMAS VINTERBERG “I never drink before breakfast.” The quote is from Churchill, who helped to defeat the Germans and win World War II, while under the excessive and constant influence of alcohol.

International Casting Directors Network Index 01 Welcome 02 About the ICDN 04 Index of Profiles 06 Profiles of Casting Directors 76 About European Film Promotion 78 Imprint 79 ICDN Membership Application form Gut instinct and hours of research “A great film can feel a lot like a fantastic dinner party. Actors mingle and clash in the best possible lighting, and conversation is fraught with wit and emotion. The director usually gets the bulk of the credit. But before he or she can play the consummate host, someone must carefully select the right guests, send out the invites, and keep track of the RSVPs”. ‘OSCARS: The Role Of Casting Director’ by Monica Corcoran Harel, The Deadline Team, December 6, 2012 Playing one of the key roles in creating that successful “dinner” is the Casting Director, but someone who is often over-looked in the recognition department. Everyone sees the actor at work, but very few people see the hours of research, the intrinsic skills, the gut instinct that the Casting Director puts into finding just the right person for just the right role. It’s a mix of routine and inspiration which brings the characters we come to love, and sometimes to hate, to the big screen. The Casting Director’s delicate work as liaison between director, actors, their agent/manager and the studio/network figures prominently in decisions which can make or break a project. It’s a job that can't garner an Oscar, but its mighty importance is always felt behind the scenes. In July 2013, the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) created a new branch for Casting Directors, and we are thrilled that a number of members of the International Casting Directors Network are amongst the first Casting Directors invited into the Academy.

At the conference, there was a collective recognition of the unfolding impact of digitalization on various aspects of social, cultural, and political life in South Asia. We had a keen sense of how much things had changed in the South Asian mediascape since the introduction of cable and satellite television in the late 1980s and early 1990s. We were also aware of the growing interest in media studies within South Asian studies, and hoped that the conference would resonate with scholars from various disciplines across the humanities and social sci- ences.

Tancelin, S. Ors, V. Jouve, Bruno Dumont, Éditions Dis Voir, Paris 2001, p. 12. Nostra traduzione. 2 B. • DEFINATION the Capacity and Willingness to Develop, Organize
DEFINATION The capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit. The most obvious example of entrepreneurship is the starting of new businesses. In economics, entrepreneurship combined with land, labor, natural resources and capital can produce profit. Entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by innovation and risk-taking, and is an essential part of a nation's ability to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly competitive global marketplace. Differences Between Women and Men Entrepreneurs When men and women start companies, do they approach the process the same way? Are there key differences? And how do those differences affect the success of the business venture? As a woman in the start-up community, I am frequently asked about women entrepreneurs. A popular question is: How are they different from men? There have been many studies of entrepreneurs and start-ups, and I’ve read a number of them. Many of them seem to me to fall short, because the researchers, not being entrepreneurs themselves, lack an in-depth understanding of the entrepreneurial mind. The result is often a lot of statistics that fail to enlighten readers about entrepreneurial behavior and motivation. So what follows are my personal opinions. They are not based on formal research, but on my own observations and interactions with other women entrepreneurs. 1.
