Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 Abstract This thesis examines the historical formation and contemporary circulation of competing variants of Turkish Cypriot nationalisms as they are realised in different Turkish Cypriot radio news outlets. Unlike North Atlantic models of journalism, these media are not governed by the values of neutrality nor of a fourth estate role, being closely aligned to political interests. Presently, there is an ideological struggle between two versions of Turkish Cypriot nationalism in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Turkish nationalism’ se es TRNC as part of a pan-Turkish nation. Within this ideology, TRNC’s future is linked to Turkey and independent of the Republic of Cyprus. ‘Pro-federation’ nationalism sees TRNC as part of an inclusive Cypriot identity.

  • The Future of Skills
THE FUTURE OF SKILLS A case study of the automotive sector in Turkey Manuscript completed in March 2021. The contents of this report are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the ETF or the EU institutions. © European Training Foundation, 2021 Reproduction is authorised, provided the source is acknowledged. PREFACE In November 2018 the European Training Foundation (ETF) launched an international review to investigate how global trends impact on developing and transition economies, and to discuss what actions they need to take to prepare their citizens for a changing world and manage the transition into an uncertain future. The ETF conference ‘Skills for the Future: Managing Transition’ concluded that monitoring and understanding evolving skills demands – driven by new technologies, the prerequisite of greening our economies and societies, interrelated economies and changing labour markets – are indispensable for action (see ETF, 2018a; 2018b). Gathering and assessing reliable intelligence on evolving skills demands through traditional methods of data collection and analysis and the exploration of innovative approaches are essential for responding to and anticipating existing and upcoming changes, and for making the necessary adaptations to education and training systems (ETF, 2019a). This study on the future of skills in the automotive sector in Turkey has been launched following the discussion referred to above. Its aim is to investigate how various drivers of change – principally in the technological field – impact on occupations and related skills in the sector and how education and training adapt to these changing needs. The choice of sector was based on several considerations.

Gerek yabancı markalı otomobillere olan ilginin artması gerek yerli alternatiflerinin azlığı gibi nedenlerden dolayı otomotiv sektöründe dışa bağımlılık artmış ve ülkelerin kendi yerli markalı otomobillerini üretmeleri büyük önem kazanmıştır.
