Georgia Transport Sector Assessment, Strategy, and Road Map The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is preparing sector assessments and road maps to help align future ADB support with the needs and strategies of developing member countries and other development partners. The transport sector assessment of Georgia is a working document that helps inform the development of country partnership strategy. It highlights the development issues, needs and strategic assistance priorities of the transport sector in Georgia. The knowledge product serves as a basis for further dialogue on how ADB and the government can work together to tackle the challenges of managing transport sector development in Georgia in the coming years. Bus: Batumi municipal bus No10 has a fixed route: Airport-Batumi Centre. Bus stop is in front of the terminal and it takes 20 minute for a bus to get to the city centre. Unknown Suburbs: Azerbaijani Settlements of the Gardabani Municipality 2020 POLICY STUDY Unknown Suburbs: Azerbaijani Settlements of the Gardabani Municipality Aleksandre Kvakhadze POLICY STUDY 2020 Introduction Since declaring its independence, the Georgian state has been struggling with the integration of its ethnic minorities. The regions densely populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis and Armenians have been passively involved in the social and political processes in Georgia. The combination of the legacy of Soviet ‘national policy,’ an ineffective educational system and socio-economic problems hinder the integration of these regions. This paper will be devoted to the Gardabani municipality, an administrative entity with a significant Azerbaijani population. Several factors have determined the choice of this region for this study. Firstly, geographically speaking, the region represents a suburban area of the cities of Tbilisi and Rustavi. It can be considered as a part of ‘greater Tbilisi/Rustavi’ or a ‘Tbilisi-Rustavi agglomeration.’ Secondly, despite its proximity to Georgia’s political and economic center, the Azerbaijani community in this region has been leading a parallel life and is disconnected from the country’s social and political dynamics. Simultaneously, very little is known about this region and very little research has been carried out on its multi-ethnic population. Unlike the neighboring Marneuli municipality, which has been receiving increasing attention from academia, the media and the non-governmental sector, the Azerbaijani population in Garbadani remains neglected by academic and non-governmental bodies. For instance, there is no comprehensive academic research on the linguistic, historical, ethnologic, social and religious parameters of Azerbaijanis in Gardabani. The absence of reliable works leads to myths and uncertainties regarding Georgia’s Azerbaijanis. -

These developments are related to the regeneration of port cities Poti and Batumi. Although many projects are already in progress and the region has the attention of both the national government and interna- tional investors, developments occur rather fragmented and without clear strategic regional plan. Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory Stadslab European Urban Design Laboratory was asked to orga- nize a Master Class dedicated to the topic of stimulating a more coherent regional development for the coastal corridor connecting Batumi and Poti. Stadslab is an established think tank and inter- national Urban Design Laboratory. We are based in the Netherlands and have a track record of activi- ties in The Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary. A team of thirteen architects and plan- ners applied for the Master Class program. Old Aged Women from Kobuleti in This Article, We Will Introduce 10 Women
Old Aged Women from Kobuleti In this article, we will introduce 10 women who are beneficiaries of the project of the Elderly Resource Centre of the Aged Women’s Association ‘Deserving Old Age’. They will share their short biographies and their points of view about issues related to older women. The women talk about how the association helps them and what has changed since their involvement with the project. ‘Deserving Old Age’ was founded in 2009. The organization has brought together the elderly living in Kobuleti and carries out various projects with their involvement. The European Union funds the project’s Elderly Resource Centre, through which we prepared this article. It began in 2014 and will continue for two years. The project aims to establish a more favourable legal and social welfare system for the elderly, improve their quality of life and campaign for the interests of the elderly through the maximum use of its resources. The views expressed in these essays are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the United Economic Commission for Europe, the Georgian Government or any Georgian authorities Tatiana Siradze - 90 years old, a doctor, a World War II veteran, the founder of the Association ‘Deserving Old Age’ Tatiana Siradze was born in Chokhatauri, in 1923. She graduated from high school and continued her studies at medical school. On 26 June 1941, she was called up to the Front, where she spent four of the toughest years of her life; she was a medical-sanitary nurse at the end of the war. -
