My daughter is now expecting her first child who will be born in the UK. My daughter is an Irish citizen. Can the baby become an Irish citizen?

Answer Yes, your grandchild can become an Irish citizen. Any child born outside Ireland to an Irish citizen is entitled to become an Irish citizen. However before the baby can claim Irish citizenship, he or she must have his or her birth registered in the Foreign Births Register, which is maintained by the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs. The Irish citizenship of successive generations can be maintained by each generation ensuring their registration in the Foreign Births Register before the birth of the next generation. If you are living outside Ireland application forms and further information are available from your nearest Irish embassy or consulate. You can find more information about applying to the Foreign Births Register and the documents required on the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs, (dfa.ie)

Once the process is completed, your grandchild will get a certificate confirming his or her entry in the Foreign Births Register. This certificate can be used as proof of Irish citizenship when applying for an Irish passport.

Kenmare Tidy Towns are proud to announce that we have again retained gold medal status in the national Tidy Towns Competition, 2010 organised by The Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and sponsored by SuperValu. Kenmare’s markings were up three points on last year, to a total of 302 out of an overall mark of 400. The Tidy Towns Committee are also delighted to announce that Kenmare also had the distinction of being voted second best kept town in Kerry and wish to congratulate Killarney Tidy Towns for achieving the top prize in this category and to for achieving third place. In monetary terms, the win for Kenmare means another few euros into the coffers, which can go towards the upgrade of the town. A gold medal means a prize of €900 plus, for coming second in Kerry, there is an additional €800. Behind the Scenes It was a tough year for town cleaning and maintenance and the Tidy Towns volunteer committee had to pull out all the stops in clean-up and maintenance work, in communication and co-operation with a myriad of public bodies, local businesses and institutions to get the town in some short of reasonable shape. “The commercial presentation achieved by the town is truly unique and an example for others to emulate”. Our junior footballers are in the final of the Barrett Cup, to be played next week end and are not a bad team. . As expected Kilgarvan won against us in the County Intermediate final in Kilgarvan. It was a good game with the final score 1.16 to 13 pts. Our team started well and were 5pts to 2pts up when Kilgarvan got a goal which brought them very much into the game. Midway in the second half we were unlucky not to get a goal after a penalty attempt by Jimmy Wharton was doubly saved. It is possible Kenmare could have won the game at that stage but Kilgarvan added numbers to their defense and gave no scope to the Kenmare forwards, no matter how they tried. A pleasing feature of the game from our point of view, was the display of a number of minors which was a test of their character. Another good omen for Kenmare is the Minor hurling. The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4; the World's first diesel hybrid The Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, the world's first diesel hybrid vehicle, was unveiled at the International Paris Motor Show this month. Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology brings together the brand's best technologies and experience: HDi diesel engines, electric vehicle knowledge, latest-generation Stop & Start and electronically-controlled manual gearboxes. The 3008 Hybrid4 Crossover combines a 2.0 litre diesel 163bhp engine and a 37bhp electric motor to give a maximum power of 200bhp, whilst only consuming an average of 3.8 litres / 100km (74.4 MPG) of fuel and emitting 99g/km of CO2. This represents a staggering reduction of 35% compared to a combustion engine.
