Business was conducted straight away and the previous committee were all re - elected who for 2016/2017 are: Chairman: Neal Cahill, Secretary: Geraldine Johnson, Treasurer: Coral Knowles, PRO: Rosemary Dixon with Eva Kelleher, Therese Hayes, Ros Green and Stephen Austen. Michael Byrne then gave us a splendid talk about trees. Having started his life in banking in UK Michael found a natural leaning toward gardening and all things green. Returning to Ireland he worked at Powerscourt, no doubt greatly contributing to their 2014 No. 3 position in the world of great gardens according to National Ge- ographic. Always looking for a new challenge he moved to a private estate, Churchill Gardens near Tralee in Kerry with a remit to return the estate to its former glory. Now an arboriculturist, he has a tremendous knowledge about trees and shared this information with us. One could say that his mantra is “Whatever your age, keep planting trees for although the generations to come will benefit from what we plant, we can nurture and feed them and enjoy them as they grow”. His talk was followed by a plant exchange which is always a great success and we can look forward to Hester Forde on the subject of Alpines on Wednesday 11 th May, 7.30 p.m.
