Photo Elma Drummond Page 5 Sneem Storytelling and Folklore Festival We started with Storytelling in the Barn. Liz Weir, this year’s storyteller, enter- tained 42 people in two sessions. Batt has changed the title to Yarns in the Barn what do you think? This year’s Storytelling Concert featured all of our tellers: Batt (of course), Liz Weir, Kate Corkery, Paddy Regan, Vincent Hyland and Edso Crowley, plus Cork storyteller/singer, Jimmy Crowley. Vincent told a true story about a meet- ing with an octopus. Killian Burns made a surprise appearance with his song about Brexit which had got a lot of publicity exclusively on our website and Fa- cebook pages. If you want to hear it, it’s still on our FB page. On Saturday morning Kate Corkery was at the Creche for the children’s story- telling performance where the audience consisted of almost as many adults as children. Every children’s session was very well attended, one of the attendees was a dog! Liz worked with the Scouts who had their jamboree in the village. The adults were catered for with storytelling sessions featuring Batt, Paddy Re- gan, Killian and Tom Moore. John Sheehan from Cork University made a welcome return lecturing on The Supernatural: Protecting Ringforts? Last year’s lecture was so popular that we moved him into the function room. This was one of our better ideas as he at- tracted a very appreciative audience of about 100 people. John’s son Oisin en- hanced the event with a beautiful display of Uillean pipe playing. Batt‘s Blue Bull session was called Fireside Yarns and Verse the maestro per- formed to a packed room and he had to stop half way through for more people to be allowed in. A Walk in the Park was this year’s concert from The South Kerry Rosen Choir held in the Church of the Transfiguration by kind permission of Rev. Michael Cavanagh. The choir took us on a walk through Killarney National Park which included the songs: My Love is an Arbutus; The Ash Grove; Fields of Gold: On Eagles Wings; Down by the Sally Gardens; The Moon and the Irish Blessing. Grahame Crouch provided various stories and poems about the park between choir numbers. The audience knew many of the songs and often sang along. Our Young Tellers, (sponsored by the Friends of Muckross), had 3 special guests siblings from Dunmanway, alI Irish Champions. There were 11 Young Tellers from all over the country who were outstanding and didn’t disappoint- ment their large audience. One of the youngsters even told a story in Irish which was great to hear. The event started with lively music from the Roscom- mon Young Tellers. Our Saturday evening was different from previous years as we had two plays: Kate Corkery’s The Sweet Shop on the Shore and our featured play (written by and starring Fionn Foley) called Brendan Galileo for Europe.
