As a gifted singer herself and a keen member of local choirs, she suggested the idea to some of her musical colleagues who she thought may be interested…….and pretty soon she had her group. It was to be a mixed choir – a combination of men and women, singing the four lines which create the distinctive Barbershop sound. Actually, Barbershop groups typically from day one and continues today with we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” feature a quartet of same-gender singers, members hailing from Holland, Germany, explained Marie-Louise, “Although it is but this was different…….This group was South Africa, England, quite demanding vocally and takes a good to feature male and female singers in each Dublin…….and…..oh yes…Kenmare. Over the years, a good few singers have passed through the ranks of ‘Mary and the Blow-Ins’ and the group currently comprises thirteen members but needs a fourteenth, to replace Alain Bras – proprietor of Eugene’s in Henry Street, who recently left the group due to pressure of work. So a male singer with a good, high- register singing voice is needed to join the Barbershop group. If there’s anyone out there who’d like to give it a go and is able to devote two hours on Wednesday evenings to rehearsal, please contact any member of the group - or specifically, Marie-Louise on 087 780 9263, or Nick Ryan on 087 973 8737. Thanks to everyone who have continued to send us old photographs of the town and its people and please keep on looking out for more. If you are spring cleaning or sorting out old boxes in the attic keep an eye out for old papers and photos as they could be of great value to our archive. This vision was passionately pursued by a newly Resort formed committee beginning with a ‘Meals on Wheels’ service which was established and operated from Kenmare District Hospital under the supervision of matron Mary Fitzgerald, and supported by the then Southern Health Board. For almost 20 years tea and sandwiches were served on a Wednesday and Friday and from there the service gradually developed and by the late eighties meals were cooked and served from ‘The Health Centre’ Bell Height, Henry Street. By 1999 the service had progressed to providing a hot meal in the ‘Old Boys School’ on Shelbourne Street, serving a growing number of older people and establishing a Social Centre. WHAT IS THE TRIATHLON IRELAND NATIONAL SERIES? The National Series is a collection of the best organised and most established races on the Triathlon Ireland calendar. In order to host a National Series race, a higher level of service to participants is required than for a standard race. Triathlon Ireland members score points in their respective age groups through competing in these National Series races.

This is a great endorsement for the quality of the Little Bo Peep, the course and the staging venue (Star Sailing marina). Also previous and present race directors, committee members, members, race marshals and anybody else involved in staging our race must be congratulated.
