Grand Knight’s Report: (Mike Stanbro) Common theme re: new Pope – renewal and rebirth of the church. Media interviews focused on what he’s going to do, how is he going to change the church…but real focus of Pope was New Evangelization. Media examples – former nun who left the church (over lesbian relationship) shared excitement, but over hope that new Pope would approve gay marriage; another example – former Catholic priest who wanted to get married, left the church. Again, excited for new pope but expressed hope new Pope would approve marriage for priests / clergy. One other similar example…former catholic woman who wanted Pope to allow women to serve as priests. Two expectations – pope will change church to conform to society or society will change the church. Opportunity for us – discuss our faith, educate others. But to do this, we need to understand our faith first. Piers Morgan and exchange – Piers asked if Rick thought Pope would approve contraception. Rick said, “I hope not!” We need to be able to refute false arguments, change the conversation. Another example – abortion. (Can get into arguments about rape scenarios, but these represent only 1% of abortions…let’s talk about the other 99% that don’t involve rape.) If any of these topics interest you, we can have Father Jack or other experts discuss them with us and educate us in upcoming Social Meetings.

Membership: (Joe Casey) Thanks for helping at Stewardship table two weekends ago. Got 2 new proposed members for approval as a result of this Stewardship Expo – Bill Coey and a member to file application later. Bill’s membership was voted on and approved by the council. 1st degree coming up in Somerville.

Committee Reports: (Program Director Kyle B.) Tom Yannus moving – some occurred last weekend; 3/23 is his house move @ 10AM – please help if you can. Monthly Rosary last weekend lightly attended…need a boost! Please try to support / attend if you can.

Church (Dave Urcinas): Easter Season Busy! This Saturday – Knights Mass at 5PM – still need 1 Lecter. 3/30 need help decorating the church – sister will direct us. Holy Week – need 8 volunteers for foot washing ceremony Thursday night. Let Dave know if you want to volunteer. (If you haven’t done it before, it’s really moving.) Easter Morning – 10:30 Overflow Mass – need volunteers for all mass support postions Living Stations 3/22 – Squires putting on. Cleanup after this weekend’s Penance Service – Jim Vargas usually does it, but may have conflict…needs a couple of folks to help. Wear your badges during Easter activities!

Community (Bill Foster): 4/14 – Next Blood Drive in Parish Center. Great turnout last time…could use your help again. 4/27 – 4/28 – ARC Drive…more details coming…could use your help with this too. (FYI, ARC drive is for handicapped / underprivileged citizens in Hunterdon County. Try to collect at stations outside Shoprite, Little Bro’s.)

Newsletter (Mike Slebodnik):

Council (Don): Not Here.

Fundraising (Art):

Family (Tom Whitlock): Alter Server Hockey game this weekend – some tickets still available. Family Night coming up too.

Youth (Rich Walsh): 3/16 – Regional Free Throw contest – we have two participants. Squires: Silent Auction @ Italian Dinner – 20 items so far…some good stuff! Can they offer xx tickets to next K of C Pancake Breakfast? (Yes.) Could still use some more baskets though. Stewardship Expo – 6 new interested potential squires.

Pro-Life (Bob Krisiak): 3/17 begins 40 Days for Life begins – peaceful protest against abortion – Life Choices in Phillipsburg from 1 to 3 PM. (Carpooling from St. Mags. – leave here around 12:15.) Worthwhile event if you can make it – spending a couple hours in front of an abortion clinic makes you really think about what is really happening there. Witnessing like this is powerful. (Jim Vargas shared personal example involving 4 former co-workers not Catholic, but all willing to pray for him in support of upcoming vigil.) Rocco shared another from his attendance at this vigil last year – hard to look at the clinic…can’t explain but heard silent screams when he looked at it.

April Social Meeting – Jennifer “Regierio” speaking to Knights re: Pro-Life and related topics…very entertaining speaker! Giving Life Choices (Joan Trusty) their check from K of C between masses on an upcoming Sunday in April…14th?

Evangelization / R and C (Jim Vargas): 3/26 – March in Washington D.C. New Pope, but also great Bishop Leaders! See link to UCB on your PC – documents key issues: Need personal encounter with Christ; need to be visible; today is a critical time in our history. Don Anderson did great job with “Conversion” series during Lent.

Unfinished Business: Pasta Dinner – (Rocco) Rocco’s son created banner for the dinner – he’s a Junior at Polytech. Rocco appreciated Knights letting his son have this opportunity! Pasta Dinner Ticket Sales – 121 sold so far; ticket sales end THURSDAY. 19 flyers hung throughout St. Magdalens campus by Pierre.

New Business: Motion for $125 for blood drive – motion APPROVED. Motion for $111 for council portion of Alter Server Hockey Game – motion APPROVED. Pierre needs help with calling local merchants to pay for ads on our printed placemats. Frank Seboria – Need ushers for upcoming Holy Thursday mass, plus color corp. Also Good Friday ushers, hold cross, etc. Saturday night mass also. Motion to pay the bills – motion made and passed.

District Deputy’s Report: (Anthony Cozzi) Ticked off at CNN last week – “ needs to get with the times and support pro-choice.” But turned around and said unborn child killed in auto accident (by drunk driver) – driver should be charged with murder…INCONSISTENT! 4/3 – 2nd degree in Hillsborough 4/12 3rd degree in Three Bridges 4/21 – 4th degree Chapter funded another pro-life RV w/sonogram. Trying to raise money via coupon books – many of our local restaurants; $20 for the book. Keep Lent holy, keep your hearts open to Christ. 4/23 – Pride in Priests Dinner – Anthony will reserve some table(s) together. Let Anthony know if you’d like to go.

Insurance Agent’s Report:

4th Degree Report: (Chris McPherson) 3rd degree on 4/12; can then do upcoming 4th degree ceremony on 4/23. (Opportunity only comes up twice a year!)

Chaplain’s Report: (Father Jack) New Pope Francis! Exciting! Whole world watching – Christians and non-christians. Great time to be engaged in our faith…Lent coming to a head, penance service coming up (go to confession!), new Pope. REALLY important to go to confession, admit we’re sinners…I know it’s hard but can’t buy into the lie that we aren’t sinners, “aren’t that bad”. Holy Week coming up…Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday…wonderful…I appreciate Knights’ help during all these events and celebrations. Good time to reflect…our holy father, our own faith lives…need to raise the bar for ourselves.

Good of the Order: Tom Whitlock; Mike Adulio, Ted Ellis, Paul Augustus; Mary Tackett; Eric Trust (being deployed); Frank’s Mom; Christine (Rocco’s colleague); Macy; Kevin’s Aunt Stella; Leaetta; our troops overseas; our priests; fallen away catholics; conversion.

Closing Prayer By: Father Jack

Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 9:25 PM.

Respectfully Submitted, Ray Blaser, Recording Secretary
