PIDGEONs of Exeter, James Pidgeon was born at in 1809. He was the son of William Pidgeon and Mary Baker of , (see the Pidgeons of Awliscombe family tree.) In 1835 he married Susan Burrows at Kentisbeare. They lived initially at Mutterton, a hamlet near Cullompton, and then moved to Payhembury. James died at the age of 47, after which Susan remarried, her second husband being Thomas Warren. Joseph Pidgeon, the only son of James and Susan was born at Mutterton in 1840. He lived with his parents and his step father into his twenties, but then left home to seek his fortune in the city of Exeter. It was there that he met and married Ann Foxwell from Taunton, Somerset. They settled in the Exeter suburb of Heavitree.
