About the artists

Fri, Dec 4 at 9:30pm Matt Darriau’s Paradox Trio Romany rhythms meet thrilling jazz improvisation in the boundary-pushing sounds of Paradox Trio. World music woodwind virtuoso Matt Darriau (of Grammy-winning ensemble The Klezmatics) leads the outfit, performing on traditional Eastern European instruments such as the gaida, a Bulgarian bagpipe, and the flute-like kaval. His intricate melodic lines are propelled by driving Balkan beats played on the dumbek.

Sat, Dec 5 at 9:30pm AMERICAN CANDY Part sketch comedy, part raucous musical satire, American Candy is a Brooklyn-based troupe that irreverently skewers the absurd side of American pop culture. Taking inspiration from groundbreaking series like In Living Color and The Carol Burnett Show, American Candy brings together a diverse group of comedians for a special performance to celebrate their television debut on Launch TV this April.

Fri, Dec 11 at 9:30pm Antoinette Montague Antoinette Montague breathes new life into jazz standards and unexpected covers alike with her bold, brassy voice and emotionally-charged delivery. An old-school chanteuse in the vein of greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, Montague is equally adept at up-tempo swing and slow-burn blues numbers alike. She takes the stage at the BAMcafé fresh from the release of her third album, World Peace in the Key of Jazz.

Sat, Dec 12 at 9:30pm The GrooveBarbers’ Acapella Holiday Show This powerhouse vocal quartet—featuring members of the pioneering contemporary a capella ensemble Rockapella—brings holiday cheer to the BAMcafé with their soulful, rock- and jazz- influenced take on barbershop. There will be no instruments in sight as seasonal classics get the doo-wop treatment in this special Yuletide concert, which includes a guest appearance by operatic soprano Inna Dukach.

Fri, Dec 18 at 9:30pm Beat Kaestli With his poignant, purely expressive voice, Swiss-American singer Beat Kaestli has won acclaim for his interpretations of everything from American jazz standards to soulful, R&B-tinged originals. For this special performance, Kaestli debuts work from his latest project, Rock My R&B, featuring ‘80s rock classics reimagined in the timeless style of jazz and R&B. This concert will feature hard rockers from the likes of Def Leopard and Billy Idol updated with a smooth, seductive sound.

Sat, Dec 19 at 9:30pm Winter Solstice Masquerade featuring Tamar-kali Celebrate the longest night of the year with Tamar-kali, who crafts hard-edged, melodic guitar rock that showcases her powerful, soul-shaking vocals. Known to audiences for her prominent role in the landmark documentary Afro-Punk, Tamar-kali has performed alongside acts like Paramore, Fishbone, Outkast, and . Expect chugging guitar lines, thunderous power chords, and an explosion of mosh-inducing energy long into the night.
