Our industry professionals have decades of experience exploring the globe, and seek out wines from the best growing regions that offer an individual perspective and value for the market. FRANCE Alphonse Mellot As far back as the XVI century the local records mention the Mellot family, whose life was governed by the seasons of the vine and the production of wines of excellent quality. Today, this century old winemaking tradition is perpetuated by Alphonse Mellot, father and son, the 18th and 19th to bear the name. The wines are produced from the upper Sancerre vineyard, the most famous of which is the “Domaine la Moussière”. Champagne Deutz Founded in 1838, Champagne Deutz is one of the oldest members of the prestigious Union de Maisons de Champagne. They source from over 490 acres of the finest Crus to craft a Champagne of distinctive style with perfect finesse, elegance, and harmony of flavors. Château Val Joanis Created in 1978 with the help of landscape gardener Tobbie Loup de Viane, the garden of Chateau Val Joanis has been labeled "Remarkable Garden" since 2005 and elected "Garden of the Year" in 2008. It welcomes several hundred visitors each year. ITALY Decugnano Dei Barbi The origin of the name Decugnano is obscure and is lost over the centuries, but already in 1212 these lands produced wine for the clergy of Orvieto. They were the lands of the church of Santa Maria di Decugnano. In 1973 Claudio Barbi found Decugnano abandoned and immediately fell in love with it. The first wines came out in 1978 and the success was immediate. Le Colture The Ruggeri Family, residents of the Veneto region since the 15th Century, produces exceptional Prosecco from their estate vineyards in the DOCG areas of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. With a focus on handmade quality, their offerings are a cut above many of the mass produced offerings on the market. Mastrojanni Mastrojanni has been writing history with its wines since 1975, earning international acclaim from top publications like Wine Spectator and the Wine Advocate. Today they have become one of the most respected Montalcino producers in Italy, making wines with personality, individuality and elegance. Rocche Costamagna This emerging Barolo producer is quickly earning the attention of the international wine press. The winery sits directly atop the city wall of La Morra, the highest point in Barolo, with vineyards stretching down the hillside toward the valley below. Owner and winemaker Alessandro Locatelli is creating exquisitely made wines in the traditional style of the Piemonte region. San Fabiano Calcinaia The San Fabiano Calcinaia Agricultural Company is located in the hills of the prestigious Chianti landscape . It extends for 165 hectares and consists of two separate nuclei: the first, in the municipality of Poggibonsi , with offices, the cellar and a good part of the vineyards. The other, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti , includes the agritourism complex and the remaining 25% of the vineyards. Guido Serio and his wife Isa , the owners, who arrived in San Fabiano in 1983 , immediately committed themselves with investments aimed at producing quality wines , renovating vineyards, winemaking cellarand aging , creating a professional and motivated staff . SPAIN Bodegas Emilio Moro The winery is located in Pesquera de Duero, a village in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region, situated in an area known as “The Golden Mile”. Innovation is one of the core values for the Emilio Moro family, with a Research and Innovation department that collaborates with several colleges in Spain to perfect processes and make wines unique. iii Featured Brands Lucien Albrecht Lucien Albrecht (pronounced Lu-Shen All-Bresht) is one of the most distinguished producers of white wines in Alsace, founded in 1698 when Balthazar Albrecht settled in Orschwihr, a small village flanked by rolling hills and ideally situated for grape-growing. COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES Brussels, 24.6.2003 COM (2003) 377 final 2003/0140 (ACC) Proposal for a COUNCIL DECISION on the conclusion of an agreement between the European Community and Canada on trade in wines and spirit drinks (presented by the Commission) EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM 1. This agreement between Canada and the European Community is the result of bilateral negotiations which took place from 7 November 2001 to 24 April 2003 on the basis of a negotiating mandate adopted by the Council on 1 August 2001 (Doc. 11170/01). The agreement comprises arrangements for the reciprocal trade in wines and spirit drinks with a view to creating favourable conditions for its harmonious development. 2. The agreement specifies oenological practices which may be used by producers of wine exported to the other Party, as well as a procedure for accepting new oenological practices. The Community's simplified system of certification will be applied to imported wines originating in Canada. Canada will not introduce import certification for Community wines and will simplify the extent of such testing requirements as are currently applied by provinces, within a year of entry into force. Production standards are agreed for wine made from grapes frozen on the vine. Concerning production standards for spirit drinks, the agreement provides that Canada will adhere to Community standards for its exports of whisky to the Community. 3. Procedures whereby geographical indications relating to wines and spirit drinks of either Party may be protected in the territory of the other Party are agreed. The current "generic" status in Canada of 21 wine names will be ended by the following dates: 31 December 2013 for Chablis, Champagne, Port and Porto, and Sherry; 31 December 2008 for Bourgogne and Burgundy, Rhin and Rhine, and Sauterne and Sauternes; the date of entry into force of the agreement for Bordeaux, Chianti, Claret, Madeira, Malaga, Marsala, Medoc and Médoc, and Mosel and Moselle.
