The Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival has been running since 1998 with the goal of using the narrative of cinema to raise public awareness of gender issues. First organized in 2002, the Autumn Film Week-Filmekimi was conceived as a compact, one-week film festival that takes place in October, heralding the new, upcoming cinema season in Turkey. From 2006 to 2008, Filmekimi conducted a film competition for digitally-shot short films. The Filmekimi programme typically includes 20-21 films screened at one or two movie theatres, and a gala screening each evening. A total audience of 42,000 was attained in 2010.
