First organized in 2002, the Autumn Film Week-Filmekimi was conceived as a compact, one-week film festival that takes place in October, heralding the new, upcoming cinema season in Turkey. From 2006 to 2008, Filmekimi conducted a film competition for digitally-shot short films. The Filmekimi programme typically includes 20-21 films screened at one or two movie theatres, and a gala screening each evening. A total audience of 42,000 was attained in 2010.
