International art exhibition 14 opens in : Volkswagen Group again main sponsor

• Volkswagen Group`s international cultural program supports the comprehensive concept of the documenta for the fourth time

• e-mobility driving experience and e-shuttle service to the Ballhaus am Bergpark for visitors to the documenta

Wolfsburg/Kassel, June 7, 2017 – The second part of the will be on view in Kassel for 100 days from June 10. The Volkswagen Group is again supporting this important exhibition as a main sponsor. For the first time, visitors to the documenta have the opportunity to test e-mobility from Volkswagen for themselves or to be driven to a film installation at the Bergpark twice a day.

“Art and culture lay the groundwork for progress and development in our society. Encountering and engaging with different ideas and perspectives enriches our thinking immensely. The documenta brings together the most important and influential ideas of our time from around the world and in this way, gives a large number of people access to viewpoints and positions, enabling them to further their understanding”, says Benita von Maltzahn, Head of Cultural and Social Engagement at Volkswagen Group.

This year e-mobility creates a special connection with the Volkswagen location in Kassel. Within Volkswagen, Kassel serves as a hub for electric drives. “We are delighted to present our competence in electric mobility in this context and to be able to offer an individual driving experience for the visitors”, says plant manager Thorsten Jablonski. documenta guests have the opportunity to test Volkswagen e-vehicles themselves on a stretch of road at the starting point, the Volkswagen cube at Friedrichsplatz 1. Twice a day, visitors can also take the e-shuttle to a film installation by Narimane Mari at the Ballhaus at the Bergpark.

Apprentices from the Volkswagen plant in Kassel helped to build the “Parthenon of Books”, a work by the Argentinean artist Marta Minujín, ahead of the documenta.

The Volkswagen Group will also be supplying the documenta organizational team as well as individual artists with its cars. Volkswagen vehicles will also escort Scottish artist Ross Birrell as he rides from Athens to Kassel by horse.
