As I reflect back on the year, I am very proud of all that we have accomplished. I am also keenly aware that none of these things would have happened without our capable staff, our dedicated board of trustees, our enthusiastic volunteers, and faithful friends like you. It is with sincere thanks and humble gratitude that we recognize every person and organization listed here. Please know that we do our best to check our lists for accuracy, but mistakes may be made. Your understanding is most appreciated. Because of the ongoing support of our loyal donors, Vesterheim is more than a world-class museum preserving the artifacts of the past. It is a cultural center dedicated to preserving living traditions through our special exhibitions, folk-art classes, annual events, youth programs, our magazine, and tours to Norway. The National Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition is an annual, judged exhibition held at Vesterheim each summer. Sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust, the exhibition included more than 100 examples of beautiful folk art by fantastic contemporary artists who submitted pieces from all over the country.

2 Vesterheim Mission Vesterheim celebrates the living heritage of Norwegian immigrants to America and shares this cultural legacy for the inspiration and enrichment of people of all backgrounds. Corey and Suzanne (Trustee) Mineck and Casey and Heather (Trustee) Miller hosted a wonderful gathering in Des Moines Vesterheim Vision featuring gourmet Norwegian food and Vesterheim’s exhibition As a cultural organization tied to Norwegian-American Rocks and Hard Places: Emigration Through the Lens of Knud immigrant experiences, Vesterheim strives to be inclusive and Knudsen. accessible as it shares stories, explores identity, fosters empathy and engagement, and builds community with increasingly diverse audiences. Vesterheim will seek to achieve this vision in four key ways: 1. Vesterheim will deliver the highest-quality facilities, staffing, programs, collections exhibitions, and outreach in a financially secure and stable way. 2. Vesterheim will actively promote discovery and sharing of knowledge to an international audience through authentic and engaging educational programs, exhibitions, collaborations, and outreach. 3. Vesterheim’s programs, exhibitions and outreach will always be based on its collections and other well-documented sources of information. 4. Vesterheim will look at not only what it meant to be a Norwegian-American in the past, but also what it means to be a Norwegian-American today, and how the story of Norwegian-Americans is relevant to society as a whole.

Greg and Karen Bruening of Decorah sponsored the exhibit Christian Midjo: Choose Your Own Artventure. Christian Midjo has one of the most distinctive styles of all of the artists in Vesterheim’s collection. His paintings include lush nature scenes and voluptuous physical forms. In this exhibit visitors chose their own “artventure” though several gallery “tours” that present different perspectives on Midjo’s paintings.
