When Mica and I opened our own trav- el company we decided that the words of Freeman Tilden would form the foundation pillars of Isthmian Adventures. With our tours we only employ local Certified Interpretive & Naturalist Guides (CING).

Our guides have many years of experience, are fluent in English, speaking, reading, and writing.

They have also completed a rigorous training program that includes not only knowledge (nature, history culture, politics, etc.), but also interpretation, meaning the ability to convey knowledge in a matter that is engaging and fitting for the audience.

They must all complete a leadership course and annually renew their Wilderness First Aid (WFA) & CPR certifications.

PASSPORT A valid passport is required for your trip. Be sure to check the expiration date. Your passport MUST be valid for six months after your date of exit from Panama. Identification: All persons are required to carry their passports while in Panama. Visitors are required to carry a passport at all times.

VISAS US citizens do not need a visa to visit Panama. If you are a citizen of another country, please check with a local consulate for entry requirements.

MONEY Currency/Banks, Credit Cards, and Currency Exchange: While referred to as the Balboa, the currency of Panama is the US dollar. US coins are used along with Panamanian coins and look exactly like American coins except for the imprint. Credit cards are accepted at hotels, major stores, and most restaurants in . Outside Panama City, cash will be necessary. Using your debit card and PIN, you can withdraw funds from an American bank account in Panama City at the ATM machines that have “Cirrus” or “Plus” sign on them.

TIPPING Tipping guides is completely discretionary, but over the years guests have asked us for tipping guidelines to reward guides for outstanding service. A range of reference would be $150-$200 USD per trip member for each Tour Leader. The Trip Leader takes care of the gratuities for luggage handling, waiters at restaurants, and local guides or drivers who may be with the group for only a short time.

SPECIAL DIETS We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs; however, please keep in mind that certain cultural differences or limitations due to logistics can make it difficult and at times impossible. Please inform us at least eight weeks before your trip if you have a restricted diet. It is important to bring a flexible attitude and supplemental snacks.
