Activity Review 2013/14

UNICEF Club (UC) member schools are devoted to promote child rights education in schools through organizing various activities. They nurture schoolmates to become global citizens and encourage them to actively concern about the state of world’s children. UNICEF Clubs organize a wide range of activities from promotion, education, advocacy to fundraising, in the hope of mobilizing their peers to strive for the goal of Zero Suffering for children.

Change for UNICEF By King George V School UNICEF Club 21-25 October 2013

After the peak travelling season, the Club utilized this valuable opportunity to encourage students to donate their foreign currency as every penny counts!

Soap Making Workshop By TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College UNICEF Club 22 October 2013

The Club introduced “Global Handwashing Day” in the morning assembly and held the after-school workshop to promote the message of ‘Clean Hands, Saves Lives’. In the workshop, students were given chance to make their own bar of soap!

24-hr Famine By Renaissance College UNICEF Club 14-15 March 2014

With the goal of helping students to understand the worldwide problem of famine, the Club organized a famine activity where students were not allowed to eat for 24 hours. During this period, they performed skits, finger painting and cardboard houses games.

Public Speaking Competition By Wa Ying College UNICEF Club 27 March 2014

The Club organized a public speaking competition regarding children’s rights and happy childhood. They hoped to use this opportunity to deepen the understanding of children’s rights among schoolmates. Paralympics Game By Hong Kong International School UNICEF Club 31 March 2014

The Club organized a special athletic game for students to compete sport tasks in different disabilities, such as having their eyes covered and playing sports on a wheelchair. This gave students the opportunity to experience the difficulties facing people with disabilities.

The 3 Clubs held a joint event for their students. Through this workshop, students learnt the right to survival and the right to be protected, as well as some issues faced by children in developing countries such as clean water and malaria.

Refugee Dinner By Canadian International School UNICEF Club 4 April 2014

The Club partnered with Christian Action to invite refugees living in Hong Kong for a dinner gathering in which students were allowed to learn about their experiences living in Hong Kong. The Club organized various performance and games to break the ice between participants. They all learnt a lot especially on the difficulties and social isolation facing refugees.

The Club collaborated with St. John’s Ambulance to promote children’s rights. They designed a maze-liked game to spread message about the right to be protected, and then St. John’s Ambulance showed students first aid equipment and taught students the basic first aid knowledge and

The Club held an orienteering event at school campus to raise awareness of child rights, by following the activity guideline of the Run and See provided by UNICEF HK. They put up different questions at school, and then participants were required to look for the checkpoints for completing a question set. The Club held a two-day fundraising activity, selling marshmallows and biscuits with maltose. The fund was used to provide 1,000 packets of oral rehydration salts to save hundreds of children in developing countries. Poverty Banquet By Holy Trinity College UNICEF Club 14 May 2014

Their poverty banquet aimed to highlight the situation of world’s children affected by hunger. By dividing students into groups representing the rich and the poor, they gained a deeper understanding of the impact of hunger issue.

The Club responded to the call from the UNICEF Young Envoys Club and organized a charity sale of A4 folders and wristbands to raise funds for Children of Syria, ensuring that their rights are protected.

In response to the Global Handwashing Day, the Club visited a nearby kindergarten and taught the kids the importance of washing hands correctly. They practiced the right steps of washing hands with soap, hoping that the UNICEF’s goal of zero suffering for children will come true one day.
