SKB has an operating and well integrated system for handling of all radioactive residues within Sweden. With the central repository for final disposal of low and medium level waste, SFR, and the central interim storage facility for spent fuel, CLAB, in operation, SKB can take care of all radioactive waste produced inside Sweden for a long time ahead. For the remaining facilities - the encapsulation plant and the final repository for spent nuclear fuel - compre- hensive research and planning activities is well under way. The siting process for the final repository for spent fuel has started with discussions and feasibility studies in a few Swedish municipalities which have expressed interest in expanding their knowledge on how a repository would influence their region. International co-operation and exchange of informa- tion in all fields of the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle is important and of great value for SKB's work. We hope this Annual Report will be of interest and that it will enhance the international information exchange.
