ABSTRACT : From ancient period India is famous for its culture, heritage and at the same time India is known for tourism. Tourists are attracted towards India only because of its natural beauty, historical places, arts and crafts. India can always boast of its rich cultural heritage. Travel and tourism in India is an integral part of Indian tradition and culture. In ancient times travel was primarily for pilgrimage as the holy place dotting the country attracted people from different parts of the world. People also travel to participate in large scale feast, fairs and festivals in different parts of country. In such a background cultural tradition was developed where Atithi Devo Bhava (the guest is god) and Vasudhaiva Kutumbhakam (the world is one family) became by wards of Indian social behavior. A Mosque is primarily a religious building for the performance of the daily prayers for five times, one of the five pillars of Islam. It is thus, the most important building for Muslims. Mosques in Karnataka have a long history and tradition. The Adil Shahis constructed mosques in Maharastra, Andra Pradesh and other parts of Karnataka State. ABSTRACT The City of Bijapur notable for its chronicled landmarks, were worked during the Adil Shahi administration. During the standard of the Adil Shahis, Bijapur formed into a significant municipality with landmarks tossed everywhere. All things considered set up by the Chalukyas of Kalyani during the 11- twelfth hundreds of years, the city turned out to be prevalently known as ' Vijayapura' or the 'City of Victory'. Bijapur filled in as a capital city and flourished for almost two centuries during the rei gn of the Adil Shahis. It tested the strong magnate realm and it almost covered the whole south India . After the decay of the Adil Shahi tradition the city disregarded to Aurangazeb and stayed in some The city of Bijapur is wealthy in chronicled landmarks for the most part identified with Islamic design. Engineering under the Adil Shahi arrived at great creative ability and made such countless magnificent landmarks in their realm, they embraced combination of Hindu and Islamic imaginative element in their Architectural structure, the Adil Shahi rulers were benefactor of special creative style. The primary highlights of Adil Shahi are accentuation on minarets in inclination to different or enormous arches, embellishing of landmarks through surface improvement and imaginative railings. The recent fad of engineering is apparent in the structures developed during the rule of Ali I.

NOBILITY IN THE BIJAPURI KINGDOM ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS SUBMITTED FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE OF ©octor of Pjilosiopljp IN --0 >\\ HISTORY II BY KcnJ ' fl MOHD. TARIQUE ANWAR ~:^ , .-/Y^ Under the Supervision of PROF. TARIQ AHMED CENTRE OF ADVANCED STUDY DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY ALIGARH (INDIA) 2008 ABSTRACT This work proposes the ;.5t.uay of the 'Nobility in Bijapuri Kingdom' from its foundation in 1489 to its final annexation in 1686 by Aurangzeb into the Mughal Empire. The purpose of this study is to analyse the institution of nobility within the territory of Bijapuri Kingdom, which, was extended roughly from the river Bhima to the river Tungabhadra. Two broad questions have led me to study the present theme: Firstly, the studies on this theme so far attempted, appears to be mainly confined either to the chronological narration of political events or to the cultural history of the Adil Shahi Court. This trend of research may be said to be due to two reasons: the source materials so far used have been mostly the court chroniclers written by the court literati and similar scholars; and the modern historians have chiefly been concerned with the idea of the 'history from above' and most of them have concentrated their energy on rulers and the elites and they missed the socio-political setup as a whole. However, the question that has led me to the present study. That is, when the foreign Muslims (afaqi) settled in the Deccan as conquerors, how and through what institutions did they rule over the indigenous people? Thus, an attempt is being made to know the structure of the state during the Adil Shahi period.

  • Chapter III Trade Development in Adil Shahi Sultanate 1489-1686
Chapter III Trade Development in Adil Shahi Sultanate 1489-1686 This chapter traces out the three phases of trade development of the Adil Shahi Sultanate, in keeping with the three main stages of the trade and commerce during the period under study. An attempt has been made here to highlight the political expansion, trade related events and activities, and the development of trade and commerce during three main phases of Sultanate for the period, 1489 -1686. On the basis of the trade development during the three phases an attempt has been made here to analyse the trade pattern of the kingdom. A few maps have been included with this chapter as well. 1. Establishment and Consolidation of Sultanate (1489-1558) This period saw the establishment of the Sultanate. As mentioned earlier, shortly after the establishment of the kingdom, Goa was captured by the Portuguese. This section therefore traces the consolidation of the kingdom under Sultan Yusuf Adil Shah, Sultan Ismail Adil Shah, Sultan Ibrahim Adil Shah I and attempts to focus on the state of trade and commerce during this phase of consolidation of the kingdom. 1.1 Territory at the Establishment When Yusuf ‘Adil Shah declared his independence he had only the province of Bijapur conferred upon him as a jagir. It included the tract known as Raichur Doab with its fort of Mudgal. In the north the territory of Bijapur extended up to the river Bhima beyond which was the jagir of Khwajah Jahan Deccani, which included Parenda and Solapur. Towards the north-west lay the newly founded kingdom of 125 Ahmednagar and in the north-east lay the jagir of Dastur Dinar which included all the territory from the river Bhima to Bidar and the towns of Belgaum, Gulbarga, Anantgir, Aland, Ganjauti and Kaljan.
