The Coume Ouarnède System, a Hotspot of Subterranean Biodiversity in Pyrenees (France)
diversity Article The Coume Ouarnède System, a Hotspot of Subterranean Biodiversity in Pyrenees (France) Arnaud Faille 1,* and Louis Deharveng 2 1 Department of Entomology, State Museum of Natural History, 70191 Stuttgart, Germany 2 Institut de Systématique, Évolution, Biodiversité (ISYEB), UMR7205, CNRS, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Sorbonne Université, EPHE, 75005 Paris, France; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] Abstract: Located in Northern Pyrenees, in the Arbas massif, France, the system of the Coume Ouarnède, also known as Réseau Félix Trombe—Henne Morte, is the longest and the most complex cave system of France. The system, developed in massive Mesozoic limestone, has two distinct resur- gences. Despite relatively limited sampling, its subterranean fauna is rich, composed of a number of local endemics, terrestrial as well as aquatic, including two remarkable relictual species, Arbasus cae- cus (Simon, 1911) and Tritomurus falcifer Cassagnau, 1958. With 38 stygobiotic and troglobiotic species recorded so far, the Coume Ouarnède system is the second richest subterranean hotspot in France and the first one in Pyrenees. This species richness is, however, expected to increase because several taxonomic groups, like Ostracoda, as well as important subterranean habitats, like MSS (“Milieu Souterrain Superficiel”), have not been considered so far in inventories. Similar levels of subterranean biodiversity are expected to occur in less-sampled karsts of central and western Pyrenees. Keywords: troglobionts; stygobionts; cave fauna Citation: Faille, A.; Deharveng, L. The Coume Ouarnède System, a Hotspot of Subterranean Biodiversity in Pyrenees (France). Diversity 2021, 1. The Dolina System Vegetation of the Northern Glacio-Karst Sector of the Asiago Plateau (Venetian Prealps – NE Italy)
Plant Sociology, Vol. 51, No. 2, December 2014, pp. 83-116 DOI 10.7338/pls2014512/06 The dolina system vegetation of the northern glacio-karst sector of the Asiago Plateau (Venetian Prealps – NE Italy) L. Giovagnoli1, S. Tasinazzo2 1Via Orione 14, I-36055, Nove (VI), Italy. 2Via Gioberti 6, I-36100, Vicenza, Italy. Abstract The paper describes the glacio-karst basin and dolina vegetation of the subcontinental enclave in the northern sector of the Asiago Plateau (south- eastern Prealps). Eleven associations were recognized in the lowest parts of dolina systems where the snow melting is delayed and exclusively chamaephytic/hemicryptophytic coenoses develop. They belong to Arabidion caeruleae, Caricion ferrugineae, Loiseleurio-Vaccinion, Nardion strictae, Oxytropido-Elynion, Seslerion variae and Sodanello alpinae-Salicion retusae alliances. Two new coenoses are described: Salicetum reticu- lato-breviserratae and Salici reticulatae-Caricetum rupestris. Some new geographical variants are proposed too. The high phytogeographic value of this calcareous prealpine plateau characterized by relict tundra vegetation surviving the more thermophilous phases that followed the Last Glacial Maximum is proved. Key words: Asiago Plateau, Carici rupestris-Kobresietea bellardii, Elyno-Seslerietea, glacio-karst system, Juncetea trifidi, Loiseleurio-Vaccinietea, south-eastern Prealps, Thlaspietea rotundifolii Introduction Study area The Asiago Plateau is one of the largest and most The Asiago Plateau lies between the Veneto Region articulated limestone mountain in the context of the and the Province of Trento and covers a total area of Venetian Prealps (north-eastern Italy). It is an area of over 600 km2 ranging from 600 to over 2300 m a.s.l. great environmental interest, included in its norther- (Fig. -

IRSOIL 2021 Intercomparison of Soil Radon Concentration Measurements
IRSOIL 2021 Intercomparison of soil radon concentration measurements 1th National Intercomparison, 8-9 July 2021 Valle del Cervo - Riserva Naturale della Bessa (BI) FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT INTRODUCTION Soil radon measurements, born as a practice closely linked to research and scientific curiosity, has managed, over the years, to carve out a more technical role, assuming relevance for its practical implications: measurement can be a useful tool for the classification of radon risk areas. In Italy, Legislative Decree n. 101/2020, transposition of 59/Euratom/2013, has undoubtedly sparked new interest on this subject. Soil radon measurements involves both radiation protection field and geophysical aspects of great interest. For some time now european researchers and freelancers met periodically to test methodologies, techniques and instruments together, thus showing great interest in these evaluations. Assoradon and AIRP therefore believed that the time was ripe to propose, also in Italy, an exercise of field measurements that would allow laboratories, both public and private, to compare their techniques and methodologies. The intercomparison is organized in collaboration with ARPA Piemonte and ARPA Valle d'Aosta The setting for this event is the province of Biella, the smallest province of Piemonte, with its famous “Valle del Cervo” that is probably the place with the highest natural radioactivity in Italy. Results of the intercomparison will be processed in the months following the event: a technical report will be drawn up and published on -
