The rounders pitch should look like the diagram below. Each diagonal 12m line represents the running line - at each corner place a post - four in total. These are the ‘bases’. First and third base should be in line with each other. The box in the centre is the bowler’s square. The centre of the bowlers square should line up with the top right hand corner of the batting square. If you have the club set you have two white rubbr mats to mark these out. The backstop line should be marked out - sitting 1m back from the batting square. If you are playing at home for fun or with younger children you may want to decrase the size of the pitch slightly to suit abilities or space.

The Aim of the Game Two teams play against each other to try to the most rounders, while try- ing to get as many players ‘out’ on the opposite side as possible. A match usually consists of two . The team who has scored the most rounders at the end of the match wins. Playing the Game Teams should have at last 6 players and a maximum of 15 players. Official rounder rules state that if teams are mixed there should be no more than 5 male players on a team.

One team will bat while the other team field and bowl. The bowler the ball to the batter who hits the ball anywhere on the Rounders pitch. The batter runs to first post and tries to continue running around all the posts before the fielders the post the batter is running to with the ball. Scoring

If the batter reaches the 2nd or 3rd post in one hit, the batting team scores ½ Rounder. If the batter reaches 4th post in one hit, the batting team scores a Rounder.

A batter can be out if the fielding team catch the ball hit by the batter before it touches the ground or by touching the post the batter is heading to with the ball before the batter reaches it. These are all the ways of scoring rounders: If the batter reaches the 2nd or 3rd post in one hit, the batting team scores ½ rounder.

If the batter reaches 4th post in one hit, the batting team scores a rounder.

If the runner reaches the 4th post on a no ball, the batting team scores a rounder.

If the batter reaches 4th post without hitting the ball, the batting team scores ½ rounder.

If the ball goes into the backward area the batter must stay at the 1st post until it reaches the outward area. If the 4th post is reached, 1 rounder is scored.

If the batter incurs 2 no balls in a row then a penalty ½ rounder is given to the batting team.

There is a penalty ½ rounder given to the batting team if the batter is obstructed by a fielder.

No Ball A ‘No Ball’ is called when; • The bowler bowls a ball which is above the batter’s head or below their knee. • The ball is bowled wide • The bowler steps outside the square when bowling • The ball bounces on its way to the batter The batter can decide to run on a no ball and cannot be caught out if they decide to do so. Getting a Player ‘Out’ A player is out when; • The ball is caught after they have hit the ball (and before it hits the floor) • If a batter runs on the inside of the posts • The post the batter is running to is stumped with the ball • You overtake a previous batter on the field • The batter misses or hits the ball and their foot is over the front or back line of the batting square • A fielder obstructs a batter • A player deliberately throws the bat • The batter loses contact with the post when the bowler has the ball Not just Rounders...
