Rounders– Competition Rules & Guidelines NORTHAMPTONSHIRE SCHOOL GAMES RULES 2016 / 2017 YEAR 9 & 10: Rounders– Competition rules & guidelines Competition Qualification Level 3 School Games: Summer Number of squads per SSP: 1 Competition Format Traditional Squad Information Minimum Squad Size: 9 Maximum Squad Size: 15 Year Groups Gender Year 9 / Year 10 Girls Equipment (Schools need to provide/take to competition) Clipboard & Pen Rounders Bats Rounders Balls x 5 1 x Set of Coloured Bibs Competition Rules These are the official School Games rules and have been produced by Rounders England and agreed by the Youth Sports Trust. There are other rules for the game but these rules should be adhered to for the School Games Innings: 1) Teams will have a minimum of one innings; however, more innings per game may be possible, dependant upon the number of teams entering the competition and any time restraints. Bowler: 1) The bowler bowls the ball underarm to the batter who hits the ball anywhere on the Rounders Pitch. Running around the track: 1) If you stop at a post you must keep contact with the post, with hand or bat. If you don’t the fielding side can stump the following post to put you out. 2) You can run onto a post even if it has been previously stumped (you don’t score if the post immediately ahead has been stumped). 3) When the bowler has the ball in the square you cannot move on, but if you are between posts you can carry on. 4) You cannot have two batters at a post. The Umpire will ask the first batter to run when the second makes contact. 5) At a post you do not have to move on for every ball bowled. 6) Once in contact with the post, you may turn the corner over the 2m line. If you turn the corner during a run and there is no contact with the post you will be deemed to have turned the corner and must run on. 7) You can move on as soon as the ball leaves the bowlers hand, including no balls. 8) You must touch 4th post on getting home. 9) The batter then runs around the outside of as many posts as possible before the fielders return the ball to touch the post the batter is heading for (must stop one past 4th post). Batter: 1) If the batter hits the ball backwards they must wait at 1st post until the ball returns to the forward line. 2) The batter can wait at 1st, 2nd or 3rd post when it is not safe to run. 3) The batter can use two hands. No Ball: 1) A no ball if: i) Not smooth underarm action. ii) Ball is above head or below knee. iii) Ball bounces on way to batter. iv) Is wide or straight at body. v) The Bowlers foot is outside the square during the bowling action. vi) You can take a run on a no ball, but once you reach 1st post you cannot return. You cannot be caught out and score in the normal way. Out when…: 1) Caught by the fielding team before the ball touches the ground. 2) Foot over the front/back line of the batting square before hitting or missing a good ball. 3) Running inside the post (unless obstructed). 4) The post you are running to is stumped. 5) You lose contact with the post during bowler’s action when he/she has possession in the square. 6) You overtake. 7) You obstruct (you have right of way on the track only). 8) Deliberately throw your bat. 9) Side out or game over. 10) If ordered to make and maintain contact with the post and refuse to do so. Scoring 1 Rounder: 1) If the ball is hit and 4th post is reached and touched before the next ball is bowled. 2) If ball is hit and 4th post reached on a ‘no ball’ (you can’t be caught out). 3) For a backward hit if 4th post is reached (you stay at 1st post while the ball is the backward area). ½ Rounder: 1) 4th post is reached without hitting the ball. 2) Ball is hit and 2nd or 3rd post is reached and touched before the next ball is bowled – but if you continue this run and are put out before reaching 4th post the score will be void. Penalty ½ Rounder: 1) For an obstruction by a fielder. 2) For consecutive no balls to the same batter. First Aid & Emergency Procedures Schools are responsible for the provision and administration of their own First Aid. The Competition Organiser will brief all School Staff prior to the start of the competition, and will provide information about emergency procedures. Withdrawing from a Competition In the event your school has to withdraw from the Competition, you need to inform your School Sport Manager at your earliest convenience, ideally with a minimum of 48 hour’s notice. Head Teachers will be notified of schools withdrawing from the competition. Cancellation of a Competition In the unlikely event the competition has to be cancelled the Competition Organiser will contact schools at the earliest opportunity. If you are not contacted assume the competition is taking place. Appendix 1) Rounders Score Sheet .

  • DENNIS AMISS Dennis Played in 50 Tests Averaging Over 46 Scoring 11
DENNIS AMISS Dennis played in 50 Tests averaging over 46 scoring 11 centuries with 262* being his highest score. In ODI’s he averaged 47 with 137 his top score. In all First Class cricket he scored over 43000 runs at an average of 43 and is on the elite list of players who have scored a century of 100’s. He also took 18 wickets. Dennis played his first game for Warwickshire in July, 1960 against Surrey at the Oval. He did not bat. In fact he watched Horner and Ibadulla share an unbroken partnership of 377 for the first wicket. In the next few years he learnt a lot about the game from Tiger Smith, Tom Dollery, and Derief Taylor, whose work as a coach has gained him a legendary reputation at Edgbaston. From 1966 he became an established player in the number three position, and was easily top of the Warwickshire averages, at 54.78 During that season Amiss played in three Test matches but success eluded him. The Australians came over in 1968, and he played in the first Test at Old Trafford. He had an unhappy game, and bagged a pair The disaster at Old Trafford may well have affected his confidence. The period from 1969 until mid-June 1972 was one of comparatively modest achievement. The summer of 1972 was a turning point for Dennis. Alan Smith, the Warwickshire captain, had six contenders for the five places available for specialist batsmen. Amiss, unable to strike form in the early weeks of the season, had to be left out of the side.

  • 15U-16U Teams Will Follow NFHS Rules
15u-16u teams will follow NFHS rules. With these exceptions: - No inning will begin after 2 hours (Any team attempting to delay game with a lead to cause a win will be penalized. 4 minutes while switching sides will be enforced.) The umpire will begin calling a ball or a strike every 10 seconds against the offending team. It is to the umpire’s discretion to enforce this rule, not the opposing team. Games are 7 innings in length Run Rule (Mercy Rule Ending Game) 15 runs after 4 innings and 10 after 5 innings Teams will be ready and equipped 15 minutes prior to game time for their game. NO INFIELD OR BATTING PRACTICE ALLOWED ON FIELD PRIOR TO GAMES. - Pitch counts are as follows: 1-35 pitches (No rest) 36-55 pitches (1 Day Rest) 56-70 pitches (2 Days Rest) 71+ pitches (3 Days/Pitcher is basically done) 110 pitches maximum per game/day The pitch count ENDS on the first pitch to the last batter faced. Meaning, little Johnny has 38 pitches and faces his last batter and finishes with 43. His pitch count for the game is 39 pitches. We understand it impossible to know if, the last batter faced will have a 3 pitch at-bat or 9 pitch at-bat. This is the easiest way to handle the pitch count end for a game and allow coaches leeway to plan. If a team has a double header, a pitch may pitch in both games but, his daily limit will be reduced to 71 pitches total in both games combined.

The same investigation asked 29 National Governing Bodies of sport (NGBs) to report on their competitive school sport provision in 39 different sports; 26 (90%) NGBs agreed to take part and they reported on 35 sports. This NGBs report is part of a wider investigation being undertaken by Ofsted into competitive school sport for Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills (HMCI), Sir Michael Wilshaw, which includes a supporting report with input from headteachers.
