Our commitment encompasses serving the youth through education, sports and formation. We seek to develop services for the elderly and homebound. Finally, we wish to challenge and sustain all parishioners through spiritual and educational activities. Page 2 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 27, 2021

Dear Parishioners,

Last weekend, at each of the Sunday Masses, I announced that Bishop DiMarzio has appointed two to our parish: Fr. Jeffry Dillon and Fr. Jecewiz. Fr. Jeffry and Fr. Jerry are both very excited to join our pastoral staff and to collaboratively advance our ministry here at St. Kevin. As mentioned, both are coming to us after more than 85 years of priestly ministry... combined. They come to us with a wealth of knowledge and both have served our diocese with zeal and for a brighter future. Fr. Jeffry will be my part-time associate and, therefore, he will be part of the pastoral staff. However, Fr. Jerry will be in residence and, therefore, he will have no “formal” responsibility. But, Fr. Jerry has made it known that he would like to be as active as much as he is needed. Both Fr. Jeffry and Fr. Jerry will enter retirement status on September 1st, but will remain active. We call it, “Senior, active status.”

Fr. Jeffry (left) was born on June 22, 1950 and attended Cathedral College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied at the Seminary, Huntington, where he received his Master of Divinity and Master in Sacred Theology degrees. He also possesses a degree as a Certified Social Worker and he has a Masters degree is Social Work. Prior to his studies and ordination to the Priesthood, for nearly 8 years, Fr. Jeffry was a New York City Police Officer. I am very much looking forward to working with him as we look forward to the future of our amazing parish.

Fr. Jerry (right) was born on June 18, 1950 and attended Cathedral College where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then attended the Pontifical North American College, Rome, for his seminary studies where he earned his Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree. Fr. Jerry has served as pastor in two parishes for over 31 years and will be coming to us as a retired , in residence. An added bonus of having Fr. Jerry with us here is that, he speaks Spanish fluently. As mentioned above, he will have no formal responsibility here but has emphasized that he would like to remain active.

Finally, also in September, Seminarian Randy Nguyen, (left) will be with us for his pastoral year. Randy was born on April 11, 1993. Pastoral year is the year prior to entering the third year in the major seminary. Prior to entering the seminary, Randy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Hunter College. He now studies at St. Vincent’s Seminary in Philadelphia. The significance of Pastoral year affords the seminarian an opportunity to really experience the life of a parish through the entire liturgical year and to also ‘shadow’ the pastor so that he can truly get a sense of the ministries pertaining to pastoral and administration. In essence, to show him the daily life of the parish and priesthood.

With Fr. Jeffry, Fr. Jerry, Seminarian Randy and I, I like to think, as we say in Brooklyn, “We got this.” I am so enthusiastic and hopeful for the collaborative efforts that will be made between the clergy, staff and the community. I can foresee great things happening here at St. Kevin! The only thing I can hope for...is that you come with us on the journey! I know that as they arrive, you will all welcome them warmly as you have welcome me. Please pray for your clergy and staff that all we do leads each one of us closer to our Loving Triune God.

In the Good Shepherd, Fr. Robert Mema June 27, 2021 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3
