Anne Petrella Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may Perpetual Light shine upon them! View this bulletin online at www.DiscoverMass.com W E E K L Y L E T T E R March 28, 2021 Dear Friends, The Church tells us: “Holy Week is ordered to the commemoration of Christ’s Passion beginning with His Messianic entrance into Jerusalem. The days of Holy Week have precedence over all other celebrations.” With this understanding as our starting point, it is clear that Holy Week is the most sacred time of year for us as believers. Therefore, I invite all of us to enter with Jesus into this holiest of weeks. It has been a long Lent and we have traveled the road of prayer, fasting and alms giving and now we come to the summit of all that we long for, during these days of Holy Week Jesus will suffer, die and because of God’s goodness and mercy, rise from the dead to save us all from death and give us new life. On this Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, let us listen to the cries of the crowd who gathered to welcome Jesus as He rode into Jerusalem and praised Him with “Hosanna in the highest.” May we see this entry by Jesus as the beginning of Jesus’ redemptive actions for our sake. Our response hopefully will be one of pure joy as we welcome Jesus at the beginning of Holy Week, and then follow Him and walk the way with Him as He goes to suffer and die for us. Then, may God who loves us cause our hearts to overflow with his love as Jesus rises to give us new life and salvation on Easter Sunday. These are blessed and sacred days my friends, may we live them for all that they are for us and allow them to shape us into God’s people redeemed by the blood of Christ. Just a reminder about the paschal fast, “which should be observed everywhere from Good Friday and continued, where possible, on Holy Saturday. In this way, the people of God will receive the joys of the Lord’s resurrection with uplifted and responsive hearts.” May we all desire to make these days of our “Holy Week” special days, different than any other week of the year. This is what we hope for all year long, this is what we live for as Catholics. I pray that these days of Holy Week and especially the Triduum will renew each of us and fill us with the love of Jesus who gave himself so that we might have new life in Him. If you are able to join us here at Church, we invite you and look forward to being with you. If you can join us on-line, we are grateful for your presence and your prayers. Whatever our participation looks like this year, I pray that this sacred time will bring peace and joy to each member of our Saint Joseph family. A Blessed Holy Week, Fr. Pray that the Lord allow you to accompany him serenely during these Easter mysteries and you may emerge from them renewed in faith, hope and charity. Palm Sunday is a moveable feast that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The Feast commemorates Jesus’ Triumphal entry in to Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four Gospels. Palm Sunday marks the first day of Holy Week, the last week of the Christian solemn season of Lent that precedes the arrival of Eastertide. A triumph was a ceremonial and celebratory procession through the streets of a city.

Polistena “Gentlemen, whether you like it or not, the feeling for religion has in the last six years regained a power which no one could have foreseen.”[1] A member of France’s Chamber of Deputies made this surprising declaration in 1837, noting the dramatic religious revival that had taken place in France in recent years. One particular religious event, a Mariophanic occurrence, may have contributed to this phenomenon. It also led to a new iconography for the Virgin Mary (fig. 1). This is the subject of my article, in which I attempt to show how a new, potent image of the Virgin became popular because it emerged at a propitious moment, politically, and because new technologies helped to widely propagate it. • Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
“What page, what passage of the inspired books of the Old and New Testaments is not the truest of guides for human life?” ~Saint Benedict, from the Rule of Saint Benedict (73:3) "Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to Him, 'Lord, here I am. Tell me what You would have me do.' If He gives me some task, I am content and I thank Him. If He gives me nothing, I still thank Him since I do not deserve to receive anything more than that. And then, I tell God everything that is in my heart. I tell Him about my pains and my joys, and then I listen. If you listen, God will also speak to you, for with the good Lord, you have to both speak and listen. God always speaks to you when you approach Him plainly and simply." ~SAINT CATHERINE LABOURE Monday, November 27 ~ Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Holy Gospel: John 2:1-11 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons.

  • Palm Sunday/Holy Week at Home
Holy Week at Home Adaptations of the Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday Rituals for Family and Household Prayer These resources are prayerfully prepared by the editorial team at Liturgical Press. These prayers are not intended to replace the liturgies of Holy Week. Rather, they are a sincere effort to cultivate some of the rituals and spirit of Holy Week in our own homes when public celebration might not be possible. LITURGICAL PRESS Collegeville, Minnesota www.litpress.org Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion Introduction Palm Sunday celebrates two seemingly different stories. We begin the liturgy by commemorating Jesus’s triumphant journey to Jerusalem where he is greeted by shouts and songs of acclamation and joy. Everything seems to be going well. Jesus is hailed as a King and people wave palm branches to show their honor for him. By the time we reach the Gospel, however, we hear the Passion of Jesus Christ, recalling the events leading up to his crucifixion and death on the cross. It may seem strange that these two extremes are celebrated on Palm Sunday, but that is the reality of the Paschal Mystery. There is only one story. Jesus’s life, death and resurrection are all connected; It is impossible to separate them as isolated events. The same is true for our lives. Everything we do is united with Christ, the good times and the difficult ones. Even when God seems distant and far away, we know that we are always connected to the story of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection.

On December 8, 1870, The Sacred Congregation of Rites promulgated the following decree, which communicated the decision of Pope Pius IX to declare St. Joseph Patron of the Universal Church, and which also raised St. Joseph’s feast of March 19 to the rank of double of the first class. Quemadmodum Deus Pope Pius IX As almighty God appointed Joseph, son of the patriarch Jacob, over all the land of Egypt to save grain for the people, so when the fullness of time had come and he was about to send to earth his only- begotten Son, the Savior of the world, he chose another Joseph, of whom the first had been the type, and he made him the lord and chief of his household and possessions, the guardian of his choicest treasures. Indeed, he had as his spouse the Immaculate Virgin Mary, of whom was born by the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ our Lord, who deigned to be reputed in the sight of men as the son of Joseph, and was subject to him. Him whom countless kings and prophets had desired to see, Joseph not only saw but conversed with, and embraced in paternal affection, and kissed.
