Donate RM10 to 'close down' 1MDB MalaysiaKini.com May 21, 2015 Affected depositors have been urged to donate RM10 to propel a campaign to pull the plug on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The donation is to fund the legal fees that will be incurred, as well as research conducted on the matter. National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW), which initiated the campaign, hopes to raise RM20,000 from depositors with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Lembaga Tabung Haji (Pilgrims' Fund Board) and Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP). Donations can be banked into NOW’s Maybank account number, 562441603039 under the name “Oversight and Whistleblowers Sdn Bhd”. The RM10 donation can also be made via credit card through Now’s website at http://donate.nowmalaysia.org/. The campaign, called 'Close down 1MDB, return rakyat's money', is aimed at, among others, filing injunctions against EPF, Tabung Haji and KWAP, as well as other government agencies found to have invested in 1MDB. Several lawmakers also assisting The NGO's executive directors, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and PKR Youth chief strategist Akmal Nasir, said several lawmakers are also assisting the campaign. "This is so that government agencies do not make any investment or loans to 1MDB from today onwards," Rafizi and Akmal told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today. The move comes after Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak confirmed that EPF, Tabung Haji and KWAP had invested in 1MDB and in subsidiaries related to the state investment fund. The injunction is expected to be filed on May 29 in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, on the basis that the above mentioned government agencies were negligent and not careful when they invested in 1MDB, Rafizi said. “I will file the injunction in my capacity as an EPF and TH depositer,” he said. The injunction against KWAP will be filed together with Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul and former Machang MP Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The NOW campaign also aims to appoint an independent research team to determine whether depositers want the three government agencies to dispose of all existing investments in 1MDB. “We also hope to appoint an independent research team to determine whether the rakyat agree on calls for 1MDB to be closed down. Briefings for depositers will also be conducted in major cities to encourage the people to take part in the campaign. “The first briefing will be conducted at 8.30pm on June 3, at the MPAJ auditorium in Pandan Indah. “I invite as many depositers of EPF, TH and KWAP to attend the briefing to listen for themselves the steps that can be taken to ensure that there will be no risk of losses by the funds,” Rafizi added.
