SENIOR CLASS OF 2018

The end of the school year is almost here and there are a few events and dates that you need to prepare for. Please listen carefully to the announcements each morning for more information relating to these items. Below are a few reminders for now!

Prom is Saturday, April 28th in the East Gym at 8:00. There will be a backdrop available for prom guests to take as many pictures as they want. If you are taking a date to prom, you need to fill out a date information form. These should be turned in by April 18th. Dates should be no older than 21 and have a clean record to attend. If you fail to complete the date form, your date will not be allowed to attend prom. Each date will be cleared through the principal. Dates will be required to show proof of ID at the door. You will not be allowed to come and go during . Security has been hired to ensure that there is no loitering in the parking lot. Please exit vehicles promptly upon arrival. Have all of your belongings with you before you enter the gym. No one is allowed in the building except seniors and their dates. If your parents want to make pictures, this has to be done before you enter the building. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Prom tickets will go on sale after spring break. The pricing for tickets is determined by the number of candle orders sold during the senior class fundraiser. Remember that each senior’s price is calculated by the number of sales they made. If your date is a senior also, their price is also determined by the candles orders they sold. The cost of prom tickets for seniors who did not sell any magazines will be $30. Dates who are not seniors will cost $30. A list will be placed outside Mrs. Perry’s door. All tickets must be purchased with cash only.

Prom CODE: Men – No blue jeans! You do not have to wear a tuxedo; however dress pants are required with a dress shirt and a tie. You will not be admitted with jeans, shorts or t-shirts. Ladies – Sunday best wear. If you are worried about the dress, bring a picture of the dress for Mrs. Tucker to approve.

Exam Schedule May 9th and 10th with makeups on May 11th.

The following seniors are exempt from final exams: Semester Classes A student who misses no more than: 3 days and has an A average in a class 2 days and has a B average in a class 1 days and has a C average in a class would be exempt from the exam in that class. Quarter Classes A student who misses no more than: 2 days and has an A average in a class 1 days and has a B average in a class 0 days and has a C average in class Tardy is defined as being a late arrival to school or an early dismissal from a class period, resulting in less than 45 minutes of missed class time. Students who miss more than 45 minutes of a 90 minute class will be counted absent. A student is allowed three (3) tardies of this nature before disciplinary action. Three (3) tardies or three (3) early dismissals (or a combination of these totaling three) will count as one (1) absence. A student who is not in his/her assigned seat when the bell rings is also considered tardy, and this type of tardy is subject to disciplinary action at any time.

Awards Day and Graduation Graduation invitations should not be sent out until 2 weeks before graduation. Do not send your invitations out until May 1st, 2018. Do not send to teachers unless they are family . Make sure you address these in black ink only.

Baccalaureate Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Bemis on Sunday, May 6th, 2018 5pm. THIS IS AN OPTIONAL EVENT. Seniors should report at 4:45 to line up. They provide this for our graduating seniors and their parents every year. We encourage each of you to attend because this is held in your honor. You are asked to wear the same thing you will be wearing to Awards Day and Graduation (not caps and gowns). You will march in and sit together as the Class of 2018. Please make every effort to attend because they do this specifically for South Side High School Seniors and parents. There will be a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Practice for Awards Day and Graduation will be held in the East Campus Gym on Monday May 14th, at 9:00 a.m. You must be at practice in order to participate in Awards Day and Graduation. You must be on time. THIS IS A REQUIRED FUNCTION TO PARTICIPATE IN AWARDS DAY AND GRADUATION. **** Wear regular school uniform for practice. ****

Awards Day will be held on Monday, May 14th, 2018 at 2:30p.m.in the East Campus Gym. You will be expected to be in your seat in the gym by 2:00p.m. You must be dressed properly. THIS IS A REQUIRED FUNCTION TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION.

Graduation will be Tuesday May 15th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Civic Center. You will be expected to be in cap and in the building by 5:15 p.m. You will have your awards day clothing under your cap and gown. School staff will be checking to ensure that proper clothing is worn under the cap and gown. If you are not dressed as instructed, you will not participate in graduation.

Tickets for graduation: Each senior will be given an envelope immediately following Awards Day. Each envelope will be labeled with each senior’s name. It will contain 10 consecutively numbered tickets. This will be all the tickets students will receive. They will not be sold through the school! All bodies must have a ticket to attend graduation. This includes babies!! Lost tickets cannot be replaced!!!

Dress Code for Awards Day and Graduation: Girls - Black dress (no sundresses) and black shoes. If you have spaghetti straps, you must wear something over your shoulders such as a black sweater. A nice solid black pant is acceptable. No exceptions – black are easy to find. If your dress is too short or if cleavage is visible, you will not be allowed to participate in awards day. Guys - Black pants, white shirt, dark tie, black shoes (no tennis shoes), and black socks.

You must be dressed appropriately in order to participate in Awards Day and Graduation.

You must attend Awards Day Practice and Awards Day in order to participate in Graduation.
