HL will be used as an abbreviation for Hal Leonard. Lower Elementary Children (Ages 6 – 8, Grades 1-3) Rules: 2 contrasting age appropriate selections in reasonable keys. Students will perform in English. Exceptions may be made for children who have been raised with a different language in their family of origin. Suggested Anthologies and Repertoire: 1. Copland, American Songs 2. Allow simple folk songs, American Songs, and hymns from class voice books such as The Singing Book by Meribeth Dayme and Cynthia Vaughn and Basics of Singing by Jan Schmidt. No rounds. 3. Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory of Music Series, Introductory Voice Repertoire, published by Frederick Harris Music. 4. Get America Singing, Hal Leonard 5. Great Big Book of Children's Songs, HL 6. The singing languages that will be allowed will be English, Spanish, and Italian. Foreign languages are not required. No arias will be permitted other than those from the Baroque period and those specific oratorio arias listed in the definitions section. Suggested Anthologies and repertoire 1. Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory of Music, Voice Repertoire Volumes 4 5, 6, published by Frederick Harris. 2. Baroque arias from 24 and 26 Italian Songs will be encouraged for the youth category. The editions allowed include the Paton and Schirmer editions. Specific arias will be permitted. These include Caro mio ben, Tu lo sai, Sebben crudele, Amarilli, and Nel cor piu non mi sento. 3. Operatic arias from Romantic, Classical, Turn of the Century, 20th and 21st centuries will not be permitted under any circumstances. 5. Selected Handel arias for Volumes 1 and 2 published by International Music Company will be permitted. These will include the Handel arias Ombra Mai Fu, Where E’re You Walk, and The Birds No More Shall Sing. 6. Classical songs and oratorio pieces from Jackie Evancho Dream with Me will be permitted except O Mio Babbino Caro and any operatic aria not from the Baroque period. 7. All classical songs and Oratorio pieces from Charlotte Church, Voice of An Angel will be permitted. Wise Publications. 8. Specific oratorio arias will be permitted to include Panis Angelicus, The Lord’s Prayer (Malotte), and Ave Maria by Caccini. Please note that some of the oratorio arias are from periods other than the Baroque period. Keys such as medium and medium high will be permitted. 9. Copland, American Songs Complete 10.
