    Archeoastronomia nelle ville imperiali romane: Villa Jovis a Capri (Napoli) * Marina De Franceschini (Archeologa, [email protected] , sito web: www.villa-adriana.net ) Giuseppe Veneziano (Osservatorio Astronomico di Genova, [email protected] , sito web: www.oagenova.it ) Ricostruzione ottocentesca della Villa Jovis, sull’isola di Capri, eseguita dall’architetto tedesco Carl Weichardt (1846-1906), tratta dall’opera Das Schloß des Tiberius und andere Römerbauten auf Capri , 1900 . * Il presente studio è stato presentato al XII Convegno Nazionale della Società Italiana di Archeoastronomia (S.I.A.) tenuto ad Albano Laziale, il 5-6 ottobre 2012 ed è in corso di stampa negli Atti relativi. Da tempo immemorabile l’isola di Capri è uno dei luoghi più belli del mondo; fra i primi ad apprezzarla vi fu l’imperatore Augusto che, come narra Cassio Dione 1, visitò l’isola nel 29 a.C., durante il viaggio di ritorno a Roma dopo la battaglia di Azio. La bellezza del sito unita ad un prodigio favorevole lo spinse a cedere alla città di Neapolis l’isola Aenaria (l’attuale Ischia) per avere in cambio Capri, che divenne così proprietà imperiale 2. Augusto scelse Capri per la villeggiatura estiva e la chiamò Apragòpolis , cioè “città del dolce far niente”. Il suo successore Tiberio invece la elesse a propria residenza permanente, quando decise di abbandonare Roma; Tacito racconta che vi possedeva ben dodici ville 3. Le enormi dimensioni dell’edificio di cui trattiamo provano che era il più importante dell’intera isola, ragion per cui da secoli è stato identificato con la « villa quae vocatur Jovis » di cui parla Svetonio 4.
