Workshops: Ann Shaffer Newsletter: A concerted group effort Dues are $20 for the first year and each year thereafter Bus Trip Coordinator: Janet Estes Website: eveningstarquiltguild.com Just a Note Good Evening Guildy Girls! Last week was a truly busy but wonderful week for me and the quilting world with the Induction of Mimi Dietrich into The Quilters Hall of Fame! She is delightful and one of the great things about Induction Week is that you get to meet the family of the Hon- oree. Mimi's husband Bob came and helped hang her quilts in Marie Webster House and the rest of her family came to help share in her Induction ceremony. We tease about the time we spend quilting, about the money we spend on quilting and we tease about not hav- ing time to cook or clean because of quilting, but we quilt not just for ourselves but for those same supportive families who sleep under our quilts, hang our quilts on their walls and wait for the next quilt that we get done hoping it has been made just for them! So here is to our families for making it possible for us to do the thing we love the most!! Proud to serve as Leader of the Pack, Sherry What’s Happening Tonight? Check out this You Tube Video on Making the Grandmother’s Flower Garden block the easy Variety Show way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihEac0jRvsU Thank You!! Renegade Quilters for sponsoring this newsletter. Sew What Happened Last Month….? Don’t you just love summer? Warm weather, fresh fruits and vegatables, picnics and our Summer Pitch In meeting!! The Evening Star Quilt Guild met 6/15/15 at the United Methodist Church, Anderson for our summer dinner. The Pendleton location was booked so Peg Peters arranged for us to meet at her church. Thanks, Peg! President Sherry McConnell greeted everyone. There were 45 members and one guest, including our 2 newest members. Our numbers keep growing which is exciting. Sherry thanked the hostess committee for their great work. The room was decorated with gardening items and flowers, which were the door prizes for 12 lucky members and a surprise flower for Sherry. Thank you Vanna Girls and the sign in table volunteers!! Shannon Arnstein led the blessing and we all enjoyed the delicious food everyone brought to share. Ann Shaffer reported that the Cancer quilt workshop will be hosted by Mary Louderback on Saturday, August 22. Quilts this year will be donated to the St Vincent Cancer Center. After a suggestion from a few members, Connie Combs volun- teered to lead a workshop in September on paper piecing. More information on these 2 workshops will be available next meeting. The Indiana State Museum quilt exhibit has opened and runs through 10/4/15. Deb Geyer, Judy Tescher and Sherry McConnell each have a quilt hung in the current exhibit and 19 other quilts from the past will be in the other part of the exhibit. Be sure to check it out. Celebration is coming next month. Classes are filling up so be sure to register soon. Eleanor Burns’ sister, Patty Knoechel will be in Shelbyville and Mt Comfort as a guest speaker. Wendy Shepherd will be a guest speaker this fall at our meeting (November?). She is the designer of our Block of the Month pattern. The first installment papers were handed out at the meeting. Each lesson will be a stand alone pattern that can be a project all on its own. There were 28 members with Show and Tell and Sharon McElfresh won the drawing. The Summer Batik Tear challenge projects were displayed and shared. They were all different and inventive. Good job, ladies!! There was a drawing for these projects with 4 members winning a gift-Emily Reeder, Rita Shively, Nan Hodge and Jeanette Williams. There were also door prizes of gift cards to Always in Stitches or Quilt Expressions, won by Greta Benziger, Arlene Ellingwood, Sharon Liptow and Stephanie Crabtree. Members could have their picture taken in front of a backdrop designed by Sharon Liptow and could add a gardening hat, boa, gloves, etc for a fun effect. It was a delightful evening! • Quilt Show 2005
Friendship Star Quilters Quiltline September 2004 President’s Message Next Meeting: September!!! I can hardly believe it. No more pool! No more trips to the September 20, 2004 lake! Cold weather! Today the neighborhood kids went to meet their 7:30 PM teachers for next year. Jo-Ann’s has already started putting pumpkins on clearance sale and leaves are falling! I am not ready for this. My daughter has come back from England and is now (with the cat I had all Speaker: Barbara Olson summer) teaching at Mississippi State, my son starts flying to China this “Designing Outside the Lines” month instead of Peru & I am pulling wallpaper off the guest room walls. This is such a busy month for all of us but we must make time to quilt. Coming in October: Mimi Dietrich The Fair is over and, although the new air conditioning may cause problems hanging quilts in our show, I was really happy to see the support many of you showed for our County Fair by submitting quilts. There were so many ribbons on Friendship Star quilts that I am at a loss WHAT’S INSIDE to name them all. We did well, ladies. Quilt Day at the Fair also went very well. I had a great time with all of you who came and worked with Upcoming Programs ....... 2 FSQ Officers ............. 3 us. The weather was spectacular, so fewer of the public felt the need to Minutes of Last Meeting .... 4 come in out of the heat and we had fewer people tying.
