Edition #34 Store Hours: ® Tuesday to Friday, 11 to 7 Saturday, 10 to 6 Sunday, 11 to 5 www.cityquilter.com 133 West 25th Street, NY NY 10001 • 212-807-0390 WINTER/SPRING SCHEDULE 2008 The holidays are quickly approaching and, like everyone else, you've got tons to do. But take a breath, sit down, put your feet up and look at all the great things we’ve got in store for you once the craziness is over. By then, you will have definitely earned some time for yourself. To begin with, if you have a finished quilt that you started in a City Quilter class over the last 10 years, please consider entering it in our exhibition of student quilts which will be hung at The Williams Club, 24 W. 39th St., from Jan. 15 to March 2. The deadline for submissions has been extended to Dec. 14 so you have time to fin- ish that binding. A submission form with details is available at the shop and on our web site. We really would like to have a huge variety to show the scope of the quilt- ing world today. Then make sure to put the dates of the exhibition in your calendar! We have some great teachers scheduled: Sharon Pederson, author of Reversible Quilts and Color for the Terrified Quilter will be here teaching from her about-to- be-published book, Machine Applique for the Terrified Quilter. Noted pattern designer Cathy Corcella's will be teaching her “Holds It All Trio” project which was featured in the latest issue of “Quilts and More.” Take a class with Leni Wiener, author of Threadpainting, and add some new techniques to your next quilt.

Friendship Star Quilters Quiltline September 2004 President’s Message Next Meeting: September!!! I can hardly believe it. No more pool! No more trips to the September 20, 2004 lake! Cold weather! Today the neighborhood kids went to meet their 7:30 PM teachers for next year. Jo-Ann’s has already started putting pumpkins on clearance sale and leaves are falling! I am not ready for this. My daughter has come back from England and is now (with the cat I had all Speaker: Barbara Olson summer) teaching at Mississippi State, my son starts flying to China this “Designing Outside the Lines” month instead of Peru & I am pulling wallpaper off the guest room walls. This is such a busy month for all of us but we must make time to quilt. Coming in October: Mimi Dietrich The Fair is over and, although the new air conditioning may cause problems hanging quilts in our show, I was really happy to see the support many of you showed for our County Fair by submitting quilts. There were so many ribbons on Friendship Star quilts that I am at a loss WHAT’S INSIDE to name them all. We did well, ladies. Quilt Day at the Fair also went very well. I had a great time with all of you who came and worked with Upcoming Programs ....... 2 FSQ Officers ............. 3 us. The weather was spectacular, so fewer of the public felt the need to Minutes of Last Meeting .... 4 come in out of the heat and we had fewer people tying.

  • 1 This Reading Group Guide for the Aloha Quilt Includes an Introduction
This reading group guide for The Aloha Quilt includes an introduction, discussion questions, ideas for enhancing your book club, and a Q&A with author Jennifer Chiaverini. The suggested questions are intended to help your reading group find new and interesting angles and topics for your discussion. We hope that these ideas will enrich your conversation and increase your enjoyment of the book. Introduction The Aloha Quilt takes one of Jennifer Chiaverini's beloved Elm Creek Quilters, Bonnie Markham, on an adventure in paradise, where the breeze is warm, the pineapple is fresh, and the quilting is rich in history and tradition. After losing her quilt shop to bankruptcy and experiencing the heartache and betrayal of a broken marriage, Bonnie just wants her divorce to be final so she can put it all behind her. Unfortunately, her soon-to-be ex-husband, Craig, isn't going to make that very easy. So the timing couldn't be better when a dear friend invites Bonnie to Hawaii for the winter to help her launch a new quilting camp on the beautiful island of Maui. It's just the escape Bonnie needs—from Craig, the divorce proceedings, and even the cold Pennsylvania winters. But after only a short time on the island, it becomes much more than an escape. Could this be someplace Bonnie could call home? Busy launching the Aloha Quilt camp, immersing herself in Hawaiian culture, developing new friendships and nurturing old ones, Bonnie's wounds begin to heal as she comes to understand the true meaning of aloha. Discussion Questions 1.
