Having been elected at convention and given the mandate to run the district , my journey has been a story and allow me to share it with you . My District Governor journey began with me having to do pre-assignments which led to me attending the District Governor Elect Seminar in Seattle, Washington, USA in July 2011. During my training there was a lot of advice given by mainly my group leader, PID Lion Ron Luxon who was very knowledgeable on all aspects of Lionism. I realised that there was quite a lot of knowledge and experience to gain and share from this historic experience both for me and most importantly to assist our District. I thus came back fired up and ready to lead. My theme for the year was INITIATE, CONSULT & COMMUNICATE FOR QUALITY SERVICE DELIVERY! Fellow Lions and Leos, I therefore call upon your support and total commitment to help me in the endeavour to place emphasis on our Motto “We Serve” for our communities, zones, regions and the entire District 412. In other words, we need to continuously work together if we are to realise the expectations placed upon our District.” DG Frances 2011 Page 3 Senior Lions In Kinshasa DRC On the 5th February all roads led to the Caritas Conference Centre in Kinshasa. HEADMASTER’S MESSAGE The world that we live in is changing rapidly. It is hard to even imagine what the requirements for a child in school may be in five years. We do know that technology is evolving incredibly quickly and it is unlikely to resemble what we know currently. Maybe every child will have a tablet and lessons; notes and homework will be done on that, then mailed through the intranet back to the staff. This already happens in many places and it will come to us - sooner rather than later. In the UK, education is moving away from the modular approach of examinations, back to the full year's work being assessed. The number of subjects a student takes at 'A' Level is likely to increase – more in line with the Baccalaureate type syllabus and exams. All of this is likely to come about – but even more than this, it is the all rounded young person who is being sought by all professions. They are looking for the person who can reason, who has social skills, who cares about the environment and the people around them; the person who is able to be positive in the toughest situation; the person who is good to be around and who can work with MR R W QUERL and for anyone at anytime; the person who is well turned Headmaster - Falcon College out and cares about his or her well being and who is “presentable” in every way. expected of our youth - not necessarily from an academic How then do we begin to produce this young person? standpoint but from a common sense, problem solving I believe it is simple – get onto the conveyer belt, do what and communication standpoint.
