Deze tweede festivale- ditie is gewijd aan de onbetwiste grootmeester van de Duitse romantiek en heeft als rode draad de idee van ‘overdracht’, of hoe topmusici als gids fungeren voor de jonge talenten die met hen de affiche delen. Vijf dagen lang besteden we volop aandacht aan het monumentale oeuvre van Johannes Brahms, waarbij lesgevers van de Muziekkapel, jonge solisten die er resideren en enkele vermaarde gastmusici u laten kennismaken met tal van zijn meesterwerken. Op het programma de Liebeslieder-Walzer voor zangstemmen en piano vierhandig; de twee pianoconcerti die Brahms met een tussenpoos van meer dan twintig jaar componeerde; het vioolconcerto en het concerto voor viool en cello, twee werken die hij opdroeg aan zijn boezemvriend, de violist Joseph Joachim; het wondermooie kwintet in f-klein waarvan men vaak de moeilijke totstandkoming benadrukt; de sonate nr.2 voor piano en cello… Begeleid door het brussels philharmonic onder leiding van Michel tabachnik vertolken de solisten van de Muziekkapel en de daar residerende leraars Abdel Rahman el bacha, Augustin Dumay, Gary hoffman en José Van Dam solowerken, kamermuziek- stukken en orkestcomposities van de grootste der Duitse romantici. Ook beroemde gastsolisten als louis lortie, Frank braley, stefania Jankova, plamena Mangova, hélène lucas en Jian Wang en de pianisten Dimitris saroglou, philippe Riga en Dana protopopescu werken mee aan dit festival. Het thema van de ‘overdracht’ ligt het Brahmsfestival nauw aan het hart. Zo geeft de internationaal vermaarde pianist en zangleraar helmut Deutsch een masterclass met de jonge zangers van enOA (European Network of Opera Academies), waar de Muziekkapel Konin- gin Elisabeth deel van uitmaakt. Elk concert in Studio 4 wordt voorafgegaan door een kamermuziekprogramma dat door de jonge solisten van de Muziekkapel wordt samengesteld. Dit idee van ‘overdracht’ werd trouwens verder doorgetrokken, want het afficheontwerp voor dit festival is het resultaat van een wedstrijd die gehouden werd onder de studenten van St-Luc. Alle ingediende ontwerpen kunt u voor en na elk festivalconcert bezichtigen op de gelegenheidstentoonstelling in Flagey. Cette année, le festival peut compter sur un troisième partenaire de van marque, le Brussels Philharmonic. Cette deuxième édition consacrée au maître incontesté du romantisme allemand a comme fil conduc- JAZZ tot teur la ‘transmission’ ou comment de grands musiciens dont la réputation n’est plus à faire guideront les jeunes et talentueux solistes programmés à leurs côtés. CONTEMPORARY Cinq jours seront consacrés à l’oeuvre monumentale de Johannes Brahms, au cours desquels les maîtres de la Chapelle Musicale, les jeunes solistes en résidence et quelques prestigieux artistes invités, font découvrir nombreux de ses chefs-d’oeuvre. Notons notamment les Liebeslieder-Walzer pour voix et piano à quatre mains ; les deux concertos pour piano que Brahms composa à plus de vingt ans 20.15 KIDS 21.00 d’écart ; le concerto pour violon et celui pour violon et violoncelle, deux oeuvres qu’il dédia à son fidèle ami le violoniste Joseph Joachim ; le merveilleux quintette en fa mineur dont on souligne souvent la difficile genèse ; ou encore la sonate n°2 pour piano et violoncelle, … Accompagnés du brussels philharmonic placé sous la direction de Michel tabachnik, les solistes de la Chapelle Musicale et leurs maî- tres en résidence Abdel Rahman el bacha, Augustin Dumay, Gary hoffman, José Van Dam, interprèteront des pièces solo, de musique van de chambre et pour orchestre du plus grand des romantiques allemands. Comptons également sur la présence de célèbres solistes tels louis lortie, Frank braley, stefania Jankova, plamena Mangova, hélène lucas, Jian Wang et des pianistes Dimitris saroglou, philippe Riga et Dana protopopescu. FESTIVALS Le thème de la ‘transmission’ est cher au Brahmsfestival. Une master-class avec les jeunes chanteurs du réseau enOA (European Network of Opera Academies) dont fait partie la Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, sera donnée par le pianiste et professeur de chant de renommée internationale helmut Deutsch. De plus, chaque concert au Studio 4 sera précédé d’un programme de musique de chambre concocté par les jeunes solistes de la Chapelle Musicale. Et toujours dans cet esprit de ‘compagnonnage’, l’image du festival a fait l’objet d’un concours auprès des étudiants de l’Ecole supérieure des Arts Saint-Luc de Bruxelles. The festival will this year be able to count on a third distinguished partner: the Brussels Philharmonic. The common thread of this second edition, devoted to the uncontested master of German Romanticism, will be the “transmission” or how great musicians with an established reputation will guide young and talented soloists programmed on their side. Five days will be devoted to the monumental work of Johannes Brahms – five days during which the masters in residence at the Music Chapel and some prestigious guest artists will perform many of the composer’s masterpieces. We should note in particular the Liebeslieder- Walzer for voice and piano for four hands; the two concertos for piano that Brahms composed more than twenty years apart; the concerto for violin and the concerto for violin and cello, two works which he dedicated to his faithful friend, the violinist Joseph Joachim; the marvel- lous quintet in F minor, which was a difficult undertaking, as is often underscored; or Sonata no.2 for piano and cello. Accompanied by the Brussels Philharmonic, under the baton of Michel tabachnik, the soloists of the Music Chapel and the masters in residence Abdel Rahman el bacha, Augustin Dumay, Gary, hoffman and José Van Dam, will perform pieces for recital, chamber music and orchestra by the greatest of German Romantic composers. The theme of “transmission” is dear to the Brahms Festival. A master class with the young singers from the European Network of Opera Academies (enOA) with which the Music Chapel is affiliated, will be given by the renowned voice teacher and pianist helmut Deutsch. Furthermore, each concert in Studio 4 will be preceded by a chamber music programme put together by the young soloists of the Music Chapel. And still in the spirit of “mentoring,” the festival’s image served as a subject for a competition at Saint Luke’s Art Institute in Brus- On stage in Europe sels. He moved to Rio de Janeiro at the age of 12 and in 1937 was already teaching the violin. Shortly afterwards, he joined the newly formed Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. He took advanced composition lessons from Hans-Joachim Koellreutter and his First String Quartet received an award from RCA Victor (1944) and a commendation from the Chamber Music Guild of Washington. The following year Santoro received a scholarship from the Guggenheim Foundation.
