You would have to be living on another planet to not know that the Addison Girls Softball team won the “Class C NYS Softball Championship last weekend in Glens Falls, NY. After defeating Notre Dame of Elmira by a score of 9 to 3 in the championship fi nals, the bus rolled into town after midnight with screams and cheers, sirens from fi re trucks, and a Main Street full on both sides of anxious fans waiting to cheer on their champions as they exited the bus in the middle of the street. Sound like a movie? Nope, just a small town welcoming home their softball heroes from battle. This was the fi rst time in school history that any team has won at the highest level in the state, in any team sport. I was fortunate enough to be the “coach” of this great team, for that I am forever grateful. I have coached many teams over the last 35 years at all different levels: Little League, Cinderella, Modifi ed, JV and Varsity levels in Softball, Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball, but none of those years can compare to this year, this team, and this title! Having said that; many, many, people over the last 12 years of these girls lives have contributed to teaching them how to play the game of softball. I believe in giving credit where credit is due! From Cinderella, to Modifi ed, to JV, and Varsity many parents & coaches have paid their dues running to and fro to practices nightly, travel ball & weekend tournaments, for that they should be proud of being part of these young lives. You all were instrumental in the development of their fundamentals, attitudes, and taught them the necessary skills to someday make them great ball players. Thank you all for your efforts! Not only were they State Champions, they were awarded the Pauline Sherwood Sportsmanship Award given out by the New York State Tournament Offi cials. My job as coach was to get them to play as a TEAM and have FUN doing so! If you were able to see these girls play the last 8 games of sectionals and states, you would’ve seen the chemistry between them which was missing early in the season. In the end they came together, as ONE UNIT, and that is why they can claim the title “NYS Class C Champions”. Mission accomplished! So to everyone I say “let this season belong to the “GIRLS” who played their hearts out for their school accomplishing something that no team ever has in ACS history, and who knows, it just may happen again, a “State Championship!” Oakley Hayes Jr, Coach of a “GREAT TEAM” “OUR TEAM & YOURS” the Addison Central School Lady Knights Softball Team Empire Girls State Delegate Armstrong Annual Golf Brewster Receives Degree Aletha Jackson has been chosen as Addison’s delegate Tournament Fundraiser Ryan Brewster, formerly of Addison, N.Y., to Empire Girls Armstrong will hold their Annual Golf Tournament graduated from State. • 2017-2018 Annual Report
The Pennsylvania Basic Education/Higher Education Science and Technology Partnership 2017-2018 Annual Service Report Executive Summary The Science In Motion program sustained bipartisan support by members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and was inserted back into the 2017-2018 state budget after deletion by the Governor. Science In Motion(SIM) was very eager to be able to provide hands-on, inquiry-based experiences to the participating schools in its role as the premier high school science education outreach program for the Commonwealth. Financial hardship of program funding over the past several years has forced many of the SIM host sites to reduce service area size, delay service to schools for several months, or completely stop service before the end of the school year. Of the sites that had science education specialists (mobile educators) from the ten-member colleges and universities, Science In Motion staff members presented over 1,590 hands-on laboratory experiences to 212 different schools. The program also provided an additional 6,206 drop-off laboratory kits for short term loan and offered 13 days of professional development workshop opportunities consortium-wide for over 55 teachers. Overall, Science In Motion provided 470 different teachers with 759 different labs creating 158,320 student experiences during the 2017-2018 school year. What is Science In Motion? Most Pennsylvania high schools cannot afford the modern, well-maintained equipment that it takes to prepare students for today’s modern technological careers in science, engineering and other technical fields. Modern scientific training is especially expensive as it requires multiple sets of equipment so that each student can get a hands-on, inquiry-based experience.
