Press Release – Central Susquehanna Community Foundation For Immediate Release Date: March 1, 2019 Contact: Karri Harter, Administrative Assistant/Programs, [email protected] or 570-752-3930, ext. 6 Community Foundation Now Accepting Scholarship Applications The Central Susquehanna Community Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for scholarship awards for the 2019-2020 academic year are now available. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate students and non-traditional students residing across the Foundation's regional service area, Lower Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Union and Snyder Counties have the opportunity to apply for a variety of scholarships. There are two different application processes. The scholarship opportunities listed below are available through the online application process available at www.csgiving.org, click on “receive”, then click “apply for a scholarship”. The deadline for applications requiring an online submission is Thursday, April 4, 2019, by 11:59 p.m. Additional scholarship funds managed by CSCF require a paper application process and are available in coordination with local school districts. For more information on those opportunities, as listed below, please contact your high school guidance office. CSCF ONLINE SCHOLARSHIPS Available at www.csgiving.org, click on “receive”, then click “apply for a scholarship”: Berwick Health and Wellness Fund - Health Profession Scholarships Available to high school seniors, current undergraduate and non-traditional students To be eligible, student must reside in the BHWF service area and be a graduating senior at one of the following high schools: Berwick, Benton, Central Columbia, Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech, Northwest, or West Side Vo-Tech. Current undergraduate and non-traditional students pursuing a health profession are also encouraged to apply. The student must be accepted into a two- or four-year college pursuing a health profession or a one- or two-year certification program. The term health profession is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from vocational nursing and dental assistant, to health education, to dentistry and medicine. BHWF scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to apply each year during their undergraduate studies for an annual award if scholarship criteria continue to be met. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate and non- traditional students are eligible to apply for a one-year award. E. Louise Simington RN Nursing Scholarship Fund All high schools in Columbia and Montour Counties To provide funds for high school graduate(s) who have resided in the Columbia and Montour County School Districts and are pursuing higher education in the field of nursing. Traditional and non-traditional student applicants will be considered. George and Barbara Forese Family Scholarship Fund Provide an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Berwick, Central Columbia, Bloomsburg or Danville High School who is attending a post-secondary Pennsylvania accredited school to pursue a degree in business, communications or psychology. Special consideration will be given to students who have participated in at least one varsity sport for two years, have an overall GPA of 3.5, and volunteered in the community. Joanne McCall Spaide Simington and Paul Simington Scholarship Fund* Provide scholarships for graduates of Mifflinburg High School pursuing degrees in an accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school programs. The recipient must reside within the present boundaries of the Mifflinburg School District for a minimum of three (3) years immediately prior to graduation. The Fund shall provide for students pursuing degrees in agriculture and/or forestry, but not including landscaping or landscape architecture, and/or education majors. Financial need will prevail over grades in award selection. Luis A. Ramos Scholarship This scholarship is for a Berwick Area or Northwest Area High School senior. Special consideration is given to students who have participated in a soccer program, students of Hispanic Heritage and/or students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community. This is a one-year scholarship award. Orlando C. Scopelliti Scholarship This scholarship is available for high school graduates from any school district within the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation service area (Lower-Luzerne, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union Counties) entering degree programs for the care and/or education of the mentally and physically challenged. Students are eligible to apply upon acceptance to a qualified program for a bachelor’s, associate or technical degree. This is a one-year award. The Alumni and Friends of Mifflinburg Area School District Foundation The Dorothy St. John Gutelius Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of previous long-term Mifflinburg Area educator who valued higher education and devoted her life to teaching. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Mifflinburg Area High School. Preference given to student who displays a well-rounded approach and dedication to their education in the past and in the future. The Kathy E. Mapes Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is in memory of a community and school volunteer. Kathy was on Board of Directors of the Alumni & Friends of Mifflinburg Area School District Foundation. One scholarship will be awarded to a student who is an active volunteer in the local community and school district. Walter and Florence Vorbleski Award These awards are offered for graduating high school seniors and/or past recipients, residing in the BHWF service area, enrolling in a two- or four-year college majoring in one of the following areas: pre-med, nursing, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, surgical technician. This is a one-year award. Walter M. Brasch Scholarship Fund Provide scholarship to a graduating senior residing in Columbia County, who is pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited Pennsylvania school majoring in Journalism. Special consideration given to students who have demonstrated potential to succeed in chosen field. William S. and Virginia L. Hartman Family Scholarship Warrior Run High School seniors attending The Pennsylvania State University are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Special consideration will be given to students who are studying agriculture or education, have exhibited a high degree of academic achievement and community involvement (4-H or other educational and service-oriented youth programs), and to students who are the first in their immediate family to attend a bachelor's program. This is a one-year scholarship(s) award. Sunbury Area Community Foundation Roger S. and Lois W. Haddon Nursing Scholarship Fund Provide scholarships for high school graduate(s) of the Danville, Lewisburg, Shikellamy and Selinsgrove Area School Districts who are pursuing nursing degrees. Past recipients may apply for the following year. One or more awards may be granted annually, provided the Foundation award minimum is met for each award. Sunbury Area Community Foundation – Health Profession Scholarships Available to high school seniors, current undergraduate and non-traditional students The Sunbury Area Community Foundation offers scholarships to students who reside in the Shikellamy, Selinsgrove and Line Mountain school districts through the Sunbury Area Health Fund. Students must be majoring in a health profession field for the 2019-2020 academic year. A health profession is broadly defined to encompass the many and varied health-related careers, ranging from nursing and dental assistant, to health education, allied health, therapy, to dentistry and medicine. Enrollment can be in an undergraduate, graduate or certification program at an institution of higher education. Students at any phase in their post-secondary education can apply. This scholarship is not limited to graduating high school seniors or "new" students. Applicant must apply for financial aid which you are eligible for (ex. PHEAA). Scholarship amounts will be determined on an individual basis. Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation John A. Bolig Seals Alumni Scholarship This scholarship is available to high school seniors or graduates (alumni) of Selinsgrove School District, who will be enrolled in a post-secondary program (certification, courses, associate degree, bachelor’s degree) at an institution of higher education or technical school. Special consideration is given to students who are pursuing a technical career (including heating, plumbing, etc.). This is a one-year award. Patricia H. and Richard E. Garman Scholarship Fund This scholarship is available to graduating seniors or graduates (alumni) from Selinsgrove Area High School who are attending a post-secondary school for a 2-year degree, 4-year degree, or certification, at a university or trade school. Consideration given to students who demonstrate financial need. Selinsgrove Rotary/Selinsgrove Area Scholarship Fund* Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation and Selinsgrove Area Rotary Club offer scholarships, to qualifying high school graduating seniors from Selinsgrove Area High School and SUN Area Technical Institute, who pursue a 2- or 4-year program or degree at an accredited post-secondary institution. Special consideration given to student’s academic achievement, financial need and potential for success in their education. Rotary club and the SACF take great pride in being
