25 August Departure from Ottawa for .

26 August – ARRIVAL IN ROME / – 220 KM Arrival at Fiumicino airport and transfer to Assisi with your private bus and driver. Stop for lunch on the road (not included). Arrival at your hotel for registration and accommodation for the next six nights. Rest of the afternoon free. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. (D)

27 August - ASSISI Breakfast. Today is dedicated to the visit of Assisi, the birthplace of St Francis, founder of the Franciscan religious order in 1208 in Assisi, and St Clare, founder of the Poor Ladies (Poor Clares), later renamed in her honor after her death in 1253, as the Order of Saint Clare. Your tour will include a visit of the of St Francis of Assisi, the Piazza del Comune with its Temple of Minerva and the Basilica of Santa Chiara (Saint Clare). Pause for lunch. In the afternoon your tour of Assisi continues with the visit of Eremo delle Carceri, where St Francis and his followers established their first home, each living alone in a cave, praying fervently and contemplating. You will continue on to the church of San Damiano, where St Francis first received his miraculous calling, and where St. Clare died in 1253. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for dinner and your overnight stay. (B, L, D)

28 August – ASSISI /PERUGIA / / ASSISI - 119 KM After breakfast, morning departure for a guided visit of Perugia, capital of the region of Umbria and an important universities city, including the University of Perugia (approx. 30,000 students) the University for Foreigners (approx. 5,000 students) and various smaller colleges and a music Conservatory. Today a well known cultural and artistic centre of Italy, Perugia was once one of the main Etruscan cities, dating back as far as 310 BC. After lunch, departure for a guided visit of Gubbio, a city with ancient origins and an austere city centre, with dark grey stones and . You will have the opportunity to admire the Duomo, built in the late 12 th century, the Roman theater, Roman Mausoleum and the Basilica of Sant’Ubaldo. Return to Assisi in the late afternoon. 29 August – ASSISI / / / CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO / ASSISI After breakfast morning departure for a guided visit of Todi, including Santa Maria della Consolazione church, a Renaissance-style church completed in 1607, Pïazza del Popolo (The People’s Square), the Cathedral (11th century) and the Church of San Fortunato, a Paleo-Christian temple built during the 7th century. Departure with your guide for Orvieto to visit the Orvieto Cathedral (interior), Piazza del Popolo (People’s Square) with the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, originally a ground floor loggia that was used as a marketplace or for meetings, the Piazza dela Repubblica and the Chiesa di S. Andrea. Continue on to Civita di Bagnoregio, a town founded by the Etruscans more than 2500 years ago, seeming to be stuck in the Middle Ages even today. The population today varies from about 12 people in the winter to more than 100 during the summer. Return to Assisi in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. (B, L, D)

30 August - ASSISI /CORTONA / AREZZO / TOSCANA (GREVE) – 270 KM After breakfast departure for Cortona, originally an Umbrian city, it eventually became a Roman colony. From Piazza Garibaldi you can admire Lake Trasimeno, stroll down the main street, via Nazionale, or make your way to the Etruscan Academy Museum, found inside Palazzo Casali. Continue on to Arezzo for lunch, and for an afternoon guided visit, including Piazza Grande, S. Maria parish, the Gothic Cathedral and ’s painted cross in S. Domenico Church. Return to Greve in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. (B, L, D)

31 August - GREVE / / GREVE - 62 KM After breakfast departure for a guided tour of Florence to visit the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of St. John and Santa Croce Basilica. Lunch. Rest of the afternoon free on your own to explore Florence; stroll up and down Pontevecchio, admiring the jewelers’ shops or the works of art and sculptures found in the Gallery of the Academy, Including Michelangelo’s , or shop for leather goods and accessories in the open air market around Piazza San Lorenzo. Return to your hotel in Greve in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel. (B, L, D)

01 September – GREVE / SAN GIMIGNANO / VOLTERRA / GREVE – 137 KM After breakfast departure for a guided tour of San Gimignano, a fortified city known as a relay point along the Franciscan Way for pilgrims journeying to/from Rome. Originally under the jurisdiction of the bishops of Volterra, it became independent in 1199. Known as San Gimignano delle Belle Torri for its 72 towers (formerly a sign of wealth and power), the city knew a long period of prosperity until 1353, when it fell under the controlling influence of Florence. Although only 14 towers remain, San Gimignano has kept its feudal appearance and atmosphere. Visit of the Museo della Vernaccia, a wine museum dedicated to the local white wine of San Gimignano. Naturally, we can’t visit a wine museum without a wine tasting! Pause for lunch in a local restaurant. (B, T, L, D)

02 September - GREVE / SIENA / MONTALCINO / GREVE – 170 KM After breakfast departure for a guided tour of Siena where you will admire the Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Pubblico and its tower, Torre del Mangia and Siena’s Cathedral. Pause for lunch before departing for Montalcino for a panoramic tour of this hill town, famous for its Brunello wine. You will admire its fortress, with a spectacular aerial view of the town, the Duomo (Cathedral), Sant’ Agostino church, as well as the Sant’Antimo Abbey. Continue on to a winery for a visit and a wine tasting. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for dinner and your overnight stay. (B, L, T, D)

03 September - GREVE / / LUCCA / GREVE - 245 KM After breakfast departure for a guided tour including the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles) and its Leaning Tower (exterior), the Baptistry and cemetery, as well as the Duomo (interior). Pause for lunch before departing for Lucca to admire Piazza San Michele, Casa Puccini, Torre Guinigi, Piazza Anfiteatro. Return to Greve in the late afternoon for dinner and your overnight stay. 04 September – GREVE – After breakfast enjoy your morning of leisure or swim in the pool. In the afternoon follow your host Federica to their winery for a tour and wine tasting. Rest of the afternoon free. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel. (B, L, T, D)
