Two Unexpected Wine Regions Win Big At THE Rosé Competition 2021

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – (June 25, 2021) – THE Rosé Competition 2021, is pleased to announce the results of our competition, held at the Ft. Lauderdale Woman’s Club, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on June 18th. Under the auspices of the American Fine Wine Competition, the judges selected Newport Vineyards, 2020 from Rhode Island ($20) as Best in Show in the Dry Rosé Category. This lovely Rosé of Cabernet Franc from a surprising East Coast wine region hit all the right notes and captivated the assembled judges. The Best of Show winner in the Sweet Category went to Soldier Creek Winery, 2020 ($18) from Iowa! The judges were thrilled by its balance of fruit, sweetness, and complexity. The Best of Show in the Sparkling wine category went to Pope Valley Vineyards, 2020 from Napa County ($42). This delightful Sangiovese Brut Rosé is a definite crowd pleaser that charmed the judges. Congratulations to these exceptional Rosé wines and all the winners. “I have never seen a competition with such diverse, unique Rosés. THE Rosé Competition brings the best Rosés from around the world to one competition,” said judge Jamie Knee, of Petite Wine Traveler.

Another judge, Michael Goldberg said, “It's always fun to participate in this competition. It's great to discover new rosés coming from non-traditional winemaking states such as Rhode Island, Iowa and Idaho amongst others. The passion these wineries/winemakers put into crafting these wines shows in the glass. Kudos to them!”

THE Rosé Competition 2021 received a total of 160 entries and the sixteen esteemed wine judges awarded 24 Double Gold Medals, 34 Gold Medals and 75 Silver Medals.

Congratulations go out to all the winners and participating wineries.

Whether dry, sweet, or somewhere in between ...there were flights of rose wines that represented all spectrums of style, color intensity and overall personality,” remarked judge John De Leo. “It was indeed a welcome challenge for us to identify the best!”

Bob Ecker is a Napa Valley based wine writer, photographer and recurrent wine judge whose content, both written and photographic is published worldwide. In 2013 he founded The Rosé Competition, the very first competition in the United States to exclusively judge Rosé wines. In 2018, he partnered with Shari Gherman, President of the prestigious American Fine Wine Competition & Gala, and together they successfully brought THE Rosé Competition to America’s East Coast.

Expertly run by Shari Gherman, President, the American Fine Wine Competition has been bringing recognition to the best wines produced in America for the past fourteen years. This year, “Fifty Shades of Pink” followed THE Rosé Competition 2021. The event was held - indoors and out on June 19th at the historic Ft. Lauderdale Woman’s Club. The event featured hundreds of magnificent award-winning Rosé wines plus fine red and white wines from the AFWC. Since its inception, AFWC has raised more than $1,500,000 for charity.
