The range of situations, and of emotions, to which we can be exposed is huge. These things help to form the richness of human living. But in themselves they can sometimes be immensely difficult to handle. Jesus’ promise was to be with his friends. Although they experienced the crushing sadness of his death, and the huge sense of betrayal that most of them felt in terms of their own abandonment of him, they also experienced the joy of his resurrection and the happiness of new times spent with him. They would naturally have understood that his promise to ‘be with them’ meant that he would not physically leave them. However, what Jesus meant when he said that they would not be left on their own was that the Holy Spirit would always be with them. It is the Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, that we celebrate during the month of May. Jesus is taken from us, body and all, but the Holy Spirit is poured out for us and on to us. The Feast of the Holy Spirit is Pentecost. It happens at the end of Eastertide, and thus marks the very last transition that began weeks before when, on Ash Wednesday, we entered the wilderness in preparation for Holy Week and Eastertide to come.

  • How to Search for Parish Registers
Searching the Website for Parish Registers How to find a baptism, marriage or burial register on the Lincs to the Past website. In the examples below we shall be using the parish of Scotton. To find Parish Registers it is best to use the Advanced Search facility. Click on the Advanced Search tab on the main header bar. You will then see the Advanced Search facility. In the “With the exact phrase” box, enter the name of the parish, “par” and “1” (Scotton par 1, in our example - it is not case sensitive). A full list of parish names is appended to this Guide. Ensure that ‘Records’ results format has been selected (i.e. do not click on ‘Images’) and click on Search. Alternatively, if you know the specific parish register you need, you can enter that in the “With exact phrase”. For example, for SCOTTON PAR/1/2 enter Scotton Par 1 2 (do not use hyphens or slashes, instead insert spaces between the numbers) Be aware that some place names such as Bourne appear in a number of other parish names. In these instances, you will also get results for other places with Bourne in their name such as Thurlby by Bourne or Morton by Bourne. To get around this problem you can type the words you wish to exclude in the “Without the Words” box (e.g. Thurlby Morton). Selecting registers and displaying images from search results The hitlist will give details of all the parish registers found, including type of register, covering dates, and reference. Scroll down the search results to find the record in which you are interested.

Geomorphology of the Lincolnshire Wolds: an Excursion Guide David Robinson Abstract: The chalk-capped Lincolnshire Wolds exhibit a range of geomorphological features created largely by river action, and a wealth of smaller features generated under glacial and periglacial conditions. An excursion from the southern sandstone country to the Humber shore visits escarpments, dry valleys, erosion surfaces and meltwater spillways. The Pleistocene lasted some two million years, of referred to as the Ipswichian) saw the main incision which at least half was cold, with sub-Arctic to of the Wolds valleys under full forest cover, while its Arctic conditions in Lincolnshire.
