Management Communication Quarterly About the journal The Editorial Board Manuscript submission 2 Featured in our May 2012 Issue Multiple during Organizational Meetings: Development of the Multicommunicating Scale KERI K. STEPHENS

Multicommunicating, a practice of using technology to conduct multiple near simultaneous conversations, is expanding into many facets of organizations today. Stephens’ research focuses on communicative behaviors involved in multicommunicating and it adds an organizational perspective to this practice. She harnessed prior qualitative research to guide the development of a scale that consists of five major Keri Stephens factors: informing, influencing, supporting others, being available, and participating in parallel meetings. A key component in the creation of this scale was a focus on construct refinement and theoretical development in addition to the empirical contribution. By focusing on the communicative behaviors in multicommunicating, this research helps position our field to explore issues related to the productivity and perceptions associated with the growth in organizational technology use.
