The eAdmissions website for online applications opened on 1st September and the closing date for applications is 31st October 2017. You must apply for a secondary place for your child even if they have an older brother or sister at your preferred school. As part of the transfer process for our Year 6 pupils, I would like to invite you to a short informal meeting on Wednesday 20th September at 6:30pm in Mars Class. We have a limited number of “Starting Secondary School 2018” booklets, detailing the admissions process, which will be handed out at the meeting. A crèche will be available for siblings only, aged 3 years and above. We would recommend that you visit the schools that you are interested in - dates and times of Waltham Forest secondary school open evenings are detailed overleaf. Making a mark: art, craft and design education 2008/11 This report evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of art, craft and design education in schools and colleges in England. It is based principally on subject inspections of 96 primary schools, 91 secondary schools and seven special schools between 2008 and 2011. This includes five visits in each phase to focus on an aspect of good practice. I am delighted that you are considering our school for your child’s secondary education. As a parent of secondary school children myself, I understand the significant role that the school will play in your family’s life during the coming years. Highams Park School is a mixed 11-18 comprehensive school that serves the local community. Our school achieves excellent examination results that place the school towards the top of the local area school tables. There are over 1600 students at the school: 240 in each year group until GCSE, and then approximately 400 in the sixth form who benefit from a purpose-built block which provides dedicated study areas as well as teaching space. Our school motto of “Success through our Endeavours” and our core behaviours of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience sum up the importance of the development of students’ character alongside our role of delivering academic excellence. But I see the cherry trees are coming into blossom and the daffodils were resplendent for St David’s Day so the Easter holidays will soon arrive and it will nearly be public exam time too, this year seems to have flashed bye so far and I sometimes struggle to keep pace. I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have a new Parent Governor; Ms Babs Pierre who has a son in Year 7 and we hope a daughter joining us in September in the next Year 7. She is a welcome addition to our school Governors, joining us with lots of experience of school governorship in the LB of Newham. I’m sure everyone will join me in welcoming her and we look forward to her future contributions to making Lammas even better. I have to, with some personal sadness, inform you that former Councillor and Mayor of Waltham Forest, Mr Tarsem Bohgal has tendered his resignation from the Governing Body with immediate effect. His resignation is prompted by personal circumstances and I have on behalf of the Governors accepted his resignation whilst thanking him for his time and effort that he has put into helping the school aspire to its potential.
