I want to be wise, joyful, grateful, compassionate, patient, funny, curious, optimistic!” As Estelle Reiner said in the classic deli scene from When Harry Met Sally: “I'll have what she’s having.” The question for us as we get older is: what do I need to do now to become the eighty-five-year-old I someday hope to be? What work do I have to do now to acquire a heart of wisdom?

Rabbi Laura Geller, Rabbi Emerita of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, was the first women to lead a major metropolitan synagogue as Senior Rabbi. Twice named one of Newsweek’s 50 Most Influential Rabbis in America, Rabbi Geller was featured in the PBS documentary Jewish Americans and was on the editorial board of The Torah: A Women’s Commentary. Respondent, Jose Lopez, was not married at the time the minor children were born or con- ceived or at least 10 months before the minor children were born or conceived. 7. Petitioner, Natalia Ruiz, has not participated in any other proceedings concerning legal de- cision-making of or parenting time with any of the children subject of this action. 8. Petitioner, Natalia Ruiz, does not know of any proceedings that could affect the current pro- ceeding, including proceedings for enforcement and proceedings relating to domestic violence, protective orders, termination of parental rights and adoptions. 9. Petitioner, Natalia Ruiz, does not know of any person who is not named as a party in this pro- ceeding that has physical custody of, or claims rights of legal decision-making or physical cus- tody of, or parenting time with any child subject to this action. 10. Petitioner, Natalia Ruiz, believes that it is in the best interest of the children to award sole legal decision-making to the mother. 11. Unrestricted parenting time by Jose Lopez would seriously endanger the childrenʼs physical, mental, moral, or emotional health. Reasonable restrictions are appropriate at this time because: Jose is deeply into drugs and has not seen the children in over a year. 12. This is the proper court to bring this lawsuit under Arizona law because it is the county of residence of the Petitioner, the Respondent, or the minor children. 13. Petitioner, Natalia Ruiz, has no knowledge of any unreimbursed medical expenses resulting from the birth of the minor children; however, if there are unreimbursed medical expenses these costs should be shared by the parties in an amount determined by the court. REQUESTS I MAKE TO THE COURT: A. Order that Jose Lopez be declared the natur- al father of the minor children. B. Order that the name of the father Jose Lopez, be added to each minor childʼs birth certificate. C. Order that each minor childʼs name be changed to the last name of Ruiz. D. Award Natalia Ruiz sole legal decision-mak- ing of the minor children. E. Order that Jose Lopez shall have no parent- ing time with the minor children until further or- der of the court. F. Order Jose Lopez to pay child support in an amount determined by the court in accordance with the Arizona Child Support Guidelines, pay- able on the first day of every month, beginning on the first day of the month following the entry of the Paternity Decree/Order. These payments, and a fee for handling, shall be paid through the Support Payment Clearinghouse and collected by automatic Income Withholding Order. Further, that costs for past child support and care for the children in an amount of $5,000.00 be paid by Jose Lopez in the amount of $100.00 each month until paid in full. Payments shall be made as stated above. G. Order Natalia Ruiz to be responsible for providing medical, dental and vision care insur- ance. H. The cost of the childrenʼs medical, dental and vision care expenses not covered by insurance should be paid 50% by Natalia Ruiz and 50% by Jose Lopez. I. Order that if paternity is contested, Natalia Ruiz and Jose Lopez be ordered to submit to such blood and tissue texts as may be neces- sary by this Court to establish paternity, and that Jose Lopez must pay all costs and expenses of this lawsuit, if their contests these proceedings, including the costs of the blood tests or other ge- netic testing; filing each childʼs birth certificate; attorneyʼs fees and court costs.
