Jan Cvitkovič Nato nel 1966, Jan Cvitkovič è laureato in Archeologia e a partire dal 1998 lavora come sceneggiatore per cortometraggi, lungometraggi e serie televisive. Nel 1999 collabora alla sceneggiatura di V Leru (Idle Running) di Janez Burger, in cui ha anche un ruolo da attore, ricevendo riconoscimenti ai festival di Kiev, Cottbus e Mosca. Nel 2001 fa il suo esordio alla regia con Bread and Milk, premio per la Miglior opera prima alla Mostra di Venezia, e nel 2003 dirige il cortometraggio Heart is a Piece of Meat. Gravehopping (2005) è il suo secondo lungometraggio, cui fanno seguito i cortometraggi I Know (2007) e This is Earth, My Brother (2009), ed il documentario Total Gambit (2010). Suo figlio Nusret arriva insieme ai due nipoti Caner e Zafer. Nonostante il sole, domina un bizzarro silenzio. Faik da qualche tempo ha dei problemi con un gruppo di nomadi ed è costantemente all’erta, mentre Zafer è affetto da disturbi mentali, dovuti al servizio militare. A completare questo piccolo gruppo familiare, si aggiungono Mehmet e Meryem, persone dal temperamento differente e dalla diversa estrazione sociale. I loro conflitti passano comunque in secondo piano: la responsabilità di ogni evento o problema è sempre e solo dei nomadi, un nemico invisibile. Emin Alper Nato nel 1974 a Konya, Emin Alper studia Economia e Storia all’Università Bogazici di Istanbul ed ottiene un dottorato di ricerca in Storia Moderna della Turchia. Insegna alla Facoltà di Scienze Umane e Sociali dell’Università Tecnica di Istanbul. Beyond the Hill è il suo esordio alla regia di un lungometraggio. Con Mariangela Barbanente è ideatore del progetto OPV i Diari del ritorno, i cui primi due episodi pilota sono diretti da Alessandro Rossetto e Leonardo Di Costanzo. Con Andrea Satta e i Têtes de Bois realizza il videoclip di Alfonsina e la bici con la partecipazione di Margherita Hack. Nato nel 1964, Giovanni Piperno dopo le collaborazioni con Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorsese, Nanni Moretti, Giuseppe Rotunno, Dante Spinotti, Giuseppe Lanci, John Seale, Janusz Kaminski, Roger Deakins, come assistente operatore, dirige numerosi documentari tra i quali Intervista a mia madre, Il film di Mario e L’esplosione, vincitore del Torino Film Festival 2003. Questo strano comportamento è la sua reazione alla recente morte del marito Koshrow, caduto accidentalmente da una rampa di scale. È proprio da Koshrow che tutto nasce, narratore inaffidabile anche dopo la sua morte. La relazione complicata eppure affettuosa della coppia si dipana come una delicata ed ironica detective story, all’interno di uno spazio-tempo della memoria evanescente e allo stesso tempo ossessivamente programmato. Tuttavia, i ricordi rivelano anche la vita segreta e la crisi di Koshrow e scavano nel profondo del suo passato, sino ad una vecchia casa tra le montagne. Recita in diversi film iraniani come Pari (1995), Leila (1996) e Borj-e Minoo (1996), e nella serie televisiva Keef-e Englisi (1999). Nel 2005 debutta alla regia di un lungometraggio con Portrait of a Lady Far Away. The Last Step è il suo secondo film, vincitore del premio Internazionale della Critica e del premio alla Miglior Attrice (Leila Hatami) al 47° Festival di Karlovy Vary.     Karlovy Vary 2012 By Gönül Dönmez-Colin Fall 2012 Issue of KINEMA 47th KARLOVY VARY FILM FESTIVAL Over 200 films, including 34 shorts and 56 documentaries, with 23 world premieres and more than120,000 tickets sold. Karlovy Vary International Film Festival celebrated its 47th year with triumph this summer despite budget cuts that have also been menacing many other film festivals. The Grand Jury, headed by Richard Peña, programme director of New York Film Festival, and including Montreal’s well-known actor François Papineau, judged a dozen films over eight days (June 29 - July 7, 2012). In the Official Competition, Pele akher (The Last Step) by Ali Mosaffa from Iran, focused on a somewhat confused young wife-widow played by Leila Hatami, well-known for her role as an irritable housewife in Asghar Farhadi’s Oscar winner, A Separation. The Last Step however lacked the well-written script of A Separation and also suffered from Hatami’s being cast in a similar role as in her earlier film, Thefeature, a loose adaptation inspired by Tolstoy’s novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich (1886) and James Joyce’s story The Dead (1914) was more like a pastiche of several Iranian films that preceded it. French Canadian Rafaël Ouellet’s Camion about a truck-driver whose life changes drastically following a traffic accident that leaves an unknown woman dead captivated the audience with its remarkable cinematography and sound narrative that succeeded in avoiding melodrama despite its subject matter. Deine Schönheit ist nichts wert (Your Beauty is Worth Nothing) by Hüseyin Tabak, an Austrian entry whose ’filmic’ identity became controversial in Turkey after having won several awards, including the best Turkish film at Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival’s national competition, focused on a twelve-year oldboyfrom Turkey and his alienation as an immigrant in Vienna.

Francophonie, i.e., the use of the French language and culture outside of France, has followed a winding path throughout several centuries in Persia (Iran). It grew from the interest of the Persian elite in a French society that neither engaged Persia militarily, nor attempted to compete with other European powers doing so. France's apparent lack of political interest in Persia became an official French diplomatic policy of "désintéressement," or "disinterest." This "hands off" policy nourished a Persian/Iranian fascination with French culture during the 19th and 20th centuries, as France was seen as a potential ally against the growing menace of Russia and Great Britain. As a result, and despite the growing political influence of other Western powers in Persia/Iran, the French language enjoyed the privileged status of first foreign Western language in Persia/Iran for almost a century, before being replaced by the English language due to the entry of the United States onto the international stage after the Second World War.

The iconography of Iranian cinema represents a thought provoking portrait of socio-ethical backdrop. Farhadi’s fame is indebted to his universal film A Separation which won the best academy award 2012. One year later, he directed The Past which nominated for 2013 the best foreign film in Cannes film festival. The Past, is an intricate drama which portraits the nostalgia for the lost wholeness of the past. This film tries to indicate that how man tries to justify his past that is stemmed from disappointment and failure by incorrect choices in life. By borrowing insights from Lyotard’s question of postmodernism, this paper attempts to study the working of postmodernism’s characteristics in Asghar Farhadi’s The Past . This paper concludes that all those features and characteristics of postmodern features together have been the real key to the sense of relativism in terms of recognition, truth, narrations, and culture on the cornerstone which postmodernism is built upon.
