ANNOUNCEMENT

The of is pleased to inform the general public of a new series of CBL Banknotes. The new CBL Banknotes are enhanced version of the current Banknotes in circulation. All original portraits, designs and watermark are maintained except for the newly introduced denomination of $500s (Five Hundred Liberian ), which contains portraits of ordinary Liberian on the front, and Liberian wildlife on the back. There are three levels of security features as indicated below. These security features are meant to deter fraud and counterfeiting, and are identifiable by an individual, machine, or the CBL. The new Banknotes consist of six family denominations which include the following: Security Feature: Category Recognition By Method Level 1 Public Look, Feel, Tilt Level 2 Professional Hand held Devices UV Lamp, Magnifying glass Machine Low Speed‐Vending, ATMs High Speed‐Sorting Level 3 Central Bank Covert

The level 1 security features which can easily be recognized by the public include:  The thread – this thread changes color when the banknote is tilted.  Rapid – this is a ribbon thread in the paper which contains a star that moves when the banknote is tilted up and down. It can be found only on the larger denominations; $50, $100, and $500.  The star – this star is the see‐through register which contains a visible UV color depending on the denomination.  Tactile print – this print is used to mark the short edges of the banknote in order to assist those visually challenged. The second and third levels are meant for the Commercial Banks, Professionals, Banknote Processing Machine (BPS), and the Central Bank. The new series of banknote will be used along with the old series currently in circulation until otherwise.
