The year was 1973 …That summer, my wife Mary Ellen and I had moved from London, Ontario to Hanover, Ontario as I was beginning a new position teaching music at John Diefenbaker Secondary School. Getting to know the town of a few thousand was pretty easy, but being an outsider and trying to “fit in” and socialize was a bit of a challenge as Mary Ellen was still finishing her final year at UWO in London, so, was home only on weekends. At the time, I had a really nice 1955 Pontiac coach which drew a lot of attention any day I drove it out in the community. One day I drove it to school and the shop teacher noticed it right away as did a certain custodian at the school, a one John Lamb (John has since passed away, but remained a true friend from the fall of 1973 till his passing). John made it known to me that he belonged to the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada, Blue Water Region and the group was having a tour in mid-October (a fall foliage tour)…and wondered if I, and my wife of course, would like to join the tour to get to know some of the other “old car” people in the area….
